My 3rd question on towing .... Kia Sorrento 2.5 CrDi manual 2006

I've been offered a Kia Sorrento 2.5 CR Di XS with 93,000 miles, manual gearbox. This model has listed braked towing capacity of 2800kg, not the 3000 or 3500kg of some other Sorrento models.

My tow-load is a 1993 IW 505 trailer (1200kg?) and 2 horses (2 x 650kg each max so 1300kg) = 2500kg which leaves just 300kg in hand ... but with my old Fourtrak at 3500kg I'm used to having 1000kg in hand.

So my question is:

Is 300kg in-hand enough from a safety viewpoint or would I find the trailer wagging the car or other safety issues or take ages to crawl up hllls?

I'm a pre-97 licence.

I have the same Sorento, IW511 with 2 x 600+ kgs on the back and I barely knew they were there. The vehicle is made for the job. I would have preferred an auto but couldn't get the spec with all the chrome I wanted ;-)

Sure it will be fine. I towed frequently with Terranos and they are 2800kg and my trailer was a 510, no effort at all.
Are you sure the Fourtrak was 3500kg, I thought they were a lot lower than that?

Yep Fourtrak is 3500kg.

Because caravans are very lightweight bubbles of air then more safety advice is given

I have the auto, but have no trouble at all with a 510, did have a trailer wagging issue, but resolved by moving the tow bar on my car down, it was to high.
You might want to weight your trailer if you haven't already i thought the older ones were 950kg, of course yours may have been modified.

NO SUCH LAW and there never has been but there are plenty of internet myths about this

Really :-O that is great news, I have obviously got myself very very confused! (and that was after reading the HHO Towing info!)
