My mare finally foaled on sunday night, sometime just before 9pm. I washed her back end at 7.30pm, no sign. my mum went out to check her at 8pm - no sign, she went back out at 9pm andshe had already foaled. She showed no signs at all and just popped him out :)

She had a beautiful black colt. He was fine when he was born but coliced slightly yesterday as he couldn't pass anything, the vet came out straight away and treated him. he is now a happy bouncing foal again. well here he is :)

Is the sire grey then?

Black foals do tend to be born a sort of silvery colour, so he could in fact stay black :)

thanks everyone :-) his dad is grey but i do hope your right and he stays black, he has very, very black legs.
his mother is CB x TB (my retired event mare) and the father is Sea Heir who is TB. I have breed him for me to keep, im hoping he is my future eventer. he has heard all about badminton already!!

Beautiful foal - hope he stays black for you!
My wee filly is a lovely liver chestnut now, but I'm sure she'll be grey :)

What a super foal! Congratulations.

Very interested to see him as one of my mares (on loan to a stud in Devon) has been put to Sea Heir this year. Will watch your foal's progress with great interest.

What a lovely looking foal!! Congratulations!

I have a TB mare by Bandmaster in foal to Sea Heir. She is due on 2nd June so only 6 days to go but she isn't looking anywhere near ready yet.

Oh my! I totally missed this when it came out - think I was asleep after Maisie being born!
He is simply stunning! I adore him!!! :) xx

Very cute foal - and Mum looks gorgeous!

I think foals that go black are usually born more of a funny kind of mousey colour, rather than actually black like this - but I am no expert!
