Well, after last nights' rearing incident I was sue I wouldn't be able to go today.

And was worried the lorry wouldn't start!
I didn't get to ride him last night AND i had to keep him in because of is lose shoe so things weren't looking too great!

Anyway, I lunged him for 10 mins this morning (luckily, sound) and my fab farrier came out at 10 to refit his shoe

Lorry started first time

Got there in plenty of time and sat around for a while. My new tatic was not to warm up for too long as he hated the venue last time.

So go into the school and warm up in walk for ages. long rein, calm!

trotted a bit still calm!!!

Canter, well that was a different story, pulling my arms out but i had a bit of control! did a quick canter on each rein and then went into the test.
N33. Was ok, calmer than he's been before but tense in the canter and took off in the medium

I was so pleased with him and he got 60%.
N37, not a test I have done before as it has rein back in it!!! Again, pretty good except for the canter and bombing off in medium (nearly pulled my arms out)!

Anyway, put him back in the lorry after a quick wash down and he was pooped! Poor lad just slept! We had a coffee and then went to get my sheets. We came 6th in the N33 and 2nd in the N37!!!! So it was very harsh marking.

I was so pleased with him. He hasn't been out for 2 months and this is only his 4th comp ever. Finally, regardless of placing, feels like we are moving forward after all.

So I am a very happy, very tired little Piaffe!

Yes it was. Last time we went there he was terrified as the warm up is quite cramped and he didn't cope at all. He was white with sweat and dripping. I wasn't going to go back there for a while but after missing so many comps due to my lorry I just wanted to enter the first possible comp!

That's excellent! Well done. Glad he's coming along.

I have a similar prob with warm ups and plan to try and lunge Finbo from noe on, then get on just before test to see if it helps with tension

Thanks! It was lovely and chilled actually. Weather was fab and we just sat in the sun for an hour after with a coffee! Lovely

Thanks Lou. Im on a high right now. Such a little thing, but to actually feel like Im getting somewhere is a lovely feeling!

I like it there but the horse doesnt!!!! I like it as its close and familiar and I think its very well run but a tad too cramped in the warm up for mine

I agree about the warmup - I know its a fairly standard size but it feels a bit cramped whenever I go jumping there. They're building another outdoor and an indoor though so should be fab once they're up and running!

Its meant to be done this year if they get planning permission. I also find the warm up cramped. It was absolute carnage at their BE event in march. They had 3 practice jumps across that small arena and about 10 or more horses in there trying to warm up.! One horse got kicked, I fell off cos another person cut in front of me as i came into a jump. I know quite a few people were complaining about it.

well done, thats great and really good that he was calmer that he normally is - what mark did you get in the second test? x

Oh yeh, forgot that! We only got like 59. something% I think the winner only got 61 something. But hes never done 37 before either.

Well done! It really wasn't that long ago he was broken was it? I seem to remember pics of him being backed on here.

No, thats right. I started breaking him in in June last year so not a year yet bless him.

Well done to you. I know what it is like in cramped warm-up areas, it is each to their own and sod the left to left stuff!! it is all good experience and there was not much difference in the percentage either so I think you did a great job.
