Just to say that I've read most of the Stamford story on here and was pleased to see it was the BHS that actually helped in the rescue. (Huge praise to the brave private people involved in this too). When I found some horses locally that were clearly in need of help I contacted the usual charities but didn't get any response. So I rang the BHS and they came out that day to check the horses, called a vet, arranged for the horses to be removed and phoned me back with an update! I was flabbergasted with their efficiency.
So I joined the BHS. The more members they they have, the more powerful and representative (and more muscles) they will have to enforce the law regarding cruelty to horses. In with the membership you get free third party insurance so can cancel that off your horse insurance cutting that bill down a bit.
You also get a free legal helpline and I just used this to get my money back from a private seller on a horse that had a health issue that was not revealed to me. With the advice they gave me I got all my money back. They also have a free tax, vat and rating helpline!
So, big thumbs up for BHS. How about becoming a member if not already?
