Am shocked!!!!!
Hacked out Sat on our own for the 1st time in a good few months (always usually have someone else - Sister or Niece - heading out & just go together for a chat etc.)
He was pulling my arms out as we trotted all the way up the lane & was very onward bound, thought we were in for a really lovely fast hack, had planned where I could canter etc and he seemed so up for it!
Anyway, came across some road signs & cones on a lane where they usually wouldn't be and tho there was a really wide verge one side I couldn't get him past them for love nor money! Was kicking like mad and unfortunately didn't take a stick (didn't think for 1 min I would need it!) and in the end I had to turn around & go a different way as he would not budge! He just froze & grew to about 18hh and felt like a bottle of fizzy pop under me!
He actually ran away from the signs as we turned to take a different route!
Anyway met another lady from yard on her mare, told her about HRH having heart failure & she offered to walk past with us - he took the lead & didn't bat an eyelid, just having another horse there restored his abundance of confidence!!!!
I have to admit at one point when we were on our own I did think he was going to just take off with me & I was nervous that he would to be 100% honest (had what could have ended up a very nasty incident after he bolted with me and it does play on my mind in those situations!).
I know it's all cos we haven't been out on our own in a while but this horse is afraid of nothing out hacking so I was very shocked to say the least!
Had planned on a good schooling session yesterday & then another attempt to pass the scary monster road signs but alas it was not to be as I woke up & it was white over!
Horses, who'd have em?! Just when you think you know them they do something to surprise you & not always in a good way!
