Vet came out today for Chicos vaccinations and i asked her t look at what I had suspicions were sarcoids.

Sadly i was correct :(

He has about 20 dotted around under armpits , on sheath, on tummy etc. None of them are very big but they are there none the less.

So after a discussion with the very lovely vet I have decided to have them all treated with Liverpool Cream.

Vet has advised Chico will have to be off work for about 6 weeks (which i dont mind in winter) and that it will be very sore for him.

Has anyone any experiences of using it and how you found the treatment?
 
Have a look at the thread at the top of veterinary page where pics are posted. Look on page 10 and you will see pics of a horse being treated with Liverpool cream. Be warned it is not very nice!
 
Remember to make sure your vet leaves you some bute/danilon to give horse, when cream is applied it's painful afterwards, and have a large tub of vaseline that you can slather on the surrounding skin that treated skin might come into contact with. It's not a very pleasant treatment, make sure you don't get the cream on your skin, it's cytotoxic nasty stuff.
 
Yep, bute in stock and ready to go here - although we have been recommended zinc and castor oil for surrounding skin rather than vaseline
 
unfortunately for Chico he has them under both 'arm pits' and between his back legs. He is going to be very sore for a while as it will rub when he moves about.

The vet said if he was an older horse they would leave them but as he is only 5 they highly recommend removing them as they will cause problems as he gets older :(

Basically he will need it done at some point so better to have it done now over winter than wait and loose all my summer riding.
 
Hi, My TB had three sarcoids treated with Liverpool Cream very successfully last year. He had one near his girth, one on his chest and one where his belly meets the top of his hindleg. They were a little sore, particularly the one on his back end, but he had Danillon and was obviously off work for a while. The results so far have been really good, the skin where the sarcoids were is smooth and healthy. I think the scars will remain hair free but that really doesn't bother me too much! The best of luck for your boy, I really think you are taking the most sensible route for treatment. Let us know how you get on x
 
Sunny developed a small one on his face, right where the bridle cheek pieces went. He had 4 Liverpool Cream treatments with 3 days between each vet visit. After the last application, I sewed a piece of sheepskin round the bridle cheek piece and we went hacking as normal. Never had bute, never had any problems, patch healed over in a few weeks, never returned. He was 21 when it was done.
 
Yes, I have had experience of both blood root ointment and the liverpool creme. Both make the horse extremely sore. Often, they will become quite violent when you try to apply the second or third application. We have had to have the vet come and sedate in order to successfully apply the ointment.

If your horse's sarcoids are so extensive over his body, then I would consider doing them in two or three batches with a month off in between.
