I have a lovely Welsh D who loves XC. When i doing show jumping at home i can do 3,6ft + get to a show won't go over 2ft!! He can be really hyper and wizzy at home and can jump fences much bigger than he needs to but when it comes to jumping at a show or training day he just goes all lazy and wont jump and refuses most things.

My PC has a XC training day coming up and would love to take him but really worried he will get there and will just be lazy and wont jump!

Is there something i can do to make him more excited at jumping away from home? Or is there some kind of feed or supplement i can give him?

Thanks In Advance

Neither will Kelly - except she won't jump at all away from home! - and she's a Welshie X!! Maybe a Welsh thing??
If you find the answer let me know ;)

ETA feed wise there is an energy booster you can give them an hour before their class that's meant to gee them up a bit...not sure about any supplements but a higher energy feed would surely do the trick?

Would she except a lead over fences? I would ring your PC and explain your situation, perhaps you can get her to follow other horses over the fences.

Maybe, thanks was gonna ring PC instructor and explain :p The thing is he just has no energy (suddenly all disapears :p) and just has no energy to jump. But only happens when he out!! x

Yes! My TB mare has this problem. I think it's down to the fact I was pushing her though. I'm compting her in tiny jumping classes untill she seems to be enjoying it, then we'll go higher :)

Can't help with advice about feed, but my lad used to have something similar - jumped anything at home, up to 3ft, but seemed to get 'stage-fright' and couldn't get him over 2ft fences at a show. After one disatrous trip to do working hunter, having fluffed and faffed, washed, plaited and sparkled, he was eliminated at the first fence. :( Took him straight off to do clear round, and just about managed to get around eventually over a 1 ft course..... oh the shame. Oh and he's part Welsh.
