Can't believe I missed the derby today! (Didn't even realise it was on
) but a huge well done to Andy!
Cazza and I trudged down to The College E C nice and early so I could do the 1m open with the lanky one. The day didn't start well, It was raining on and off, the lorry got stuck where it's been parked because the grass was so wet so it took us a while to get it shifted
and we arrived at the E C about 1/2 an hour late so I pegged it over to register (as I passed the arena I thought "sh1t that course looks big, can't be the 1m open") and they said I could put in a late entry (cue the sigh of relief from me) so when I went to fill in my forms I checked the class number I saw it was actually a 1.05m open (and for me the leap from 1m to 1.05m is HUGE!) and my face went from this -->
to this -->
when I was warming Olympic up over some fences he was making minimal effort so I kept telling Cazza to put them up (to what I thought was a 1.05m upright and a 1.05/1.10 ish spread) and he was pinging them brilliantly. When we were walking to the collecting ring C informed me that the upright was about 1.10/1.15 ish and the spread was 1.25.
I went into the ring shaking like a leaf but he was such a star
The first 4 fences were spot on, I held him a bit too much going into 5 (smallest fence on the course) and he just tipped the pole, I took a crap line into 6 and we got in a bit deep but he popped it perfectly and we got 7 spot on aswell (cue a big grin, lots of pats and "good boy"s from me
). I was so chuffed with him, he didn't try and bu**er off once, he only pulled once after 6 when I asked him for a change but he was fab
