At 28 I thought making decisions such as what hat to buy would be simple, but no. I found myself being concience of what it looked like, and why everyone was staring at me whilst i was getting hats fitted (in reality... no one was... but my mind told me they were). My girlfriend was trying to help.... but in the end a decision was made!

My choise of hats was initially between the Charles Owen GR8 and the champion ventair. I went to Stockley Trading and must have tried on each hat about 5 times, then agin in 2 different sizes. The GR8 was nice, but the lack of cooling and the fact that I looked a bit girly did not help (i know looks should don't matter but i couldnt help it!)

The lady in the shop was very helpful, told me to keep the tags on and wear the hat at home for an hour or so too see how it felt... the answer to that only took 20mins of solid wearing.

Headache of a very bad nature.... the fitment at the front was a little tight, but for some reason it was aching at the top of my head. But tried it again the next day and no better so I decided it was be taken back.

Today, it was a short jolly to frogpool.... never been before, was a bit like a massive jumble sale! went to look for hats but everything was all over the place so gave up.... but soon returned as the searching was rugs was becoming tedious.

To my delight there in the corner was a lovely looking hat, fairly manley and mainly black (the silver strip on the ventair was not doing it for me!) so I tried it on and it was great so I bought it!

And after all my questioning on here about the Champion Ventair and GR8..... what did I end up buying.....

hehe, glad you've found one that you like. Hats are a really personal thing I feel as for instance - I cant stand the JTE & Champions dont fit me (I've got the GR8 incidently)

I haven't been to stockley in ages - are you a fellow sussex person?

My OH brught me the Champion Ventair for Christmas this year as my everyday hat as have a nice show hat and jockey skull......I fancied a change and a show hat is not really for everyday riding....but,pleased your happy with your hat as long as it's right and does not "crush" your head that is the main thing and these our nice looking hats....enjoy

East Sussex - down in Eastbourne! I should have spent more time with the Champion on in the shop, once home i could really feel that the shape did not suit my head!

The GR8 was a lovely hat, but the JTE just edged it for me!

But a few bits from stockley in the sale, couple of martingales, some riding fleeces and think that was it!

Little yard at knockhatch! you know the road that leads up to the ski slope? the yard entrance is just after that turning off the A22 and the fields either side of that road leading to the ski centre are part of the yard. Only a little place!

Congrats on your new buy!

Ooops not the best weekend to take a trip to Frogpool, their big annual sale is on at the mo where all us locals go a bit mad!!!

Was not too bad! The hats were all over the place and in the wrong sections but we got some bargain tack!

I was at frogpool yesterday from 10 til about 11.30, maybe we were there at the same time. We bought some real bargain rugs for the ponies (fals and rambos) but there were barely any 6'3" left *grumpy face* bought a lovely amerigo girth though.

I tried I buy a hat but they didn't have my size (4.5 or a 5 for my huge head!) I'm going to have to get my local shop to order one in. Happy riding in your hat x
