had a lovley hack this evening andwhere i normally have to try , and turn my mare on a sixpence in order to shut a gate at the end of a bridleway worrying about ditches either side, i asked her to rein back and she did 4 steps . i was so chuffed with her as weve never had to try before. pointless post but i love my horse.

Well done you - well done horsey !

makes such a difference doesn't it !

My horsey is good at gates and stuff (he's 26 so had years and years of practise!) but we have just had a new gate put in from our outsoor school to the carpark (where I have to ride if I am going out hacking) and it swings the other way to the old one! Its taken a few attempts but we have got the hang of it now and I was sooo pleased the first time I didn't have to get off to do it !!!! - but he has to stand half way up a grassy verge with his chest pinned right up against a fence and it was causing some problems - he's now mastered standing like a mountain goat and I am soooo pleased with him!

Your horse is a lot cleverer than my last horse - Cat would stand still for a nanosecond, then decide that if he threw enough of a hissy fit, the gate would magically open!!

My preferred gate technique is to bring o/h on his mountain bike!!
