thanka

Aww he's lovely! Looks like some Welsh Sec D in there, poss? I wouldnt hog him, personally. He has a lovely mane. My cob was hogged as I was showing her but it took months to grow out and she looked awful in the meantime, four inches of bolt upright mane!
Welcome to the forum btw xx :)

thanks debsg I want to show him to but limited what I can do with him with his colour aren't I ? im new to cobs so showing them is all new to me as I have always showed my section a;s x

He's gorgeous!

I do like a clipped and hogged cob, and of course if you were going to show him then you would need to - it's whether to can be bothered with the constant up keep.

To be honest lgr he has that much feather it's hard work keeping on top of them and keeping them clean I do have a hot horse shower that helps keep him clean lol I really want to hog but scared incase he doesn't look right x

oh he is lovely! He does look very welsh cobbie and a gorgeous colour. Such a shame to hog that pretty mane but it is your decision! Enjoy whatever you do :)

I think that he would suit being hogged.

To get an idea of how he would look, plait his mane over tightly and tuck his forelock back under his headcollar or bridle headpiece. Then look at him from the side where the plaits don't fall, it will give you an idea of how he will look without a mane!

I'd take his feathers off too, it's a lot easier to take care of de feathered legs (I speak from experience....).

Ikwym, for example I always used to plait for hunting, one of the reasons being that plaiting is actually quicker and easier than keeping a mane pulled and pristine enough for hunting.

If you are sure, go for it, it will obviously grow back, but be prepared for it to take about 2 years before he will look normal again!

Thanks tobiano it won't be a decision I take lightly as I do love his mane and feather but will be limited showing him with him how he is which is a shame they should have a class for the solid colour traditionals :-(

He is lovely, looks like a big version of my old sec C. You coukd show him as a traddie cob, they don't have to be coloured (do they?), or traditional type at local shows. How big is he?

He is standing at 15.1 now he will be 4 at the end of April I've been told I can't show him in traditional classes cause he isn't coloured at county level I've never shown cobs before so it's all new to me only ever shown my 2 welshys
