I've had a good feel and defo can only find one, even if i have a feel higher up as might be tucked up...still can't find the other one!!! i'VE heard that this can be an expensive problem when it comes to Gelding him.... He's definatly got a spring in his step this week... must be the weather or he's starting to get frisky as he wants to play (usually with me) all the time...anyone else had anything similar??

My previous pony had this problem - only one dropped. My vet advised me to leave it as long as I could (to the point where he was so colty to handle and had to be split up from my mare). He examined him prior to castration and said he thought he could feel the second one, very high up and very small! The castration took a long time and was heavy going for my vet but he managed it. I had a good gawp at the removed "items" and one was very small!!!! My vet said at the time that he would come back to remove the second, but thankfully that wasn't necessary.

Ironically, I'm having another "ball" issue now with my new youngster. He was castrated in September but I noticed today it looks like he still has one testicle. He is still very nervous to handle so I can't get a good feel at the mo!

When we had our colt gelded, the vet told us that one testicle was retained. When it was removed it was significantly smaller than the other, apparently this can be cancerous, dont be alarmed, just ask the vet to geld him and wait to see what they say.
I am sure he will be fine, they do carry one higher than the other.
Have you got him booked in for the deed!!

I think its fairly common they only have one fully descended ball!
A couple of our colts had the same, we left it as long as possible, they eventually dropped enough to be gelded without having to have a more serious op. They usually nearly always drop eventually, sounds like he is making you wait

I know someone who breeds a lot and swears that if one drops only to have them cut, remove one and then the other will come down quicker.

My 2 year old colt only has one dropped, even tho vet can possibly feel the other high up I have been quoted £600 plus VAT rather than the usual £150 for a normal castration, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Was also told that if it had not dropped by now (he also is 2 in may) then it is a very slim chance that it will ever drop.

BTW - vet also said that there does seem to be some connection with a 'rig' colt being alot naughtier than a normal colt!!

There is a small chance that one under anesthetic the other one will drop, but not very likely.
What is imperative is that you don't just have the one that has dropped removed. No vet will do that anyway, as otherwise the animal could be passed off as a gelding.
Rigs are four times the stallions that stallions are (if you see what I mean) & are far happier once castrated.
Cost wise I was quoted up to £1000, but actually found an equine apecialist vet who did a fabulous job for just over £400.

Daughter has a colt that has only one descended ball and have been told to wait til April time before attempting having him cut in the hope that the other drops.

We have been quoted £100 for a standing castration and £250 for total knockout

Dont know how much it costs, but get him seen too.
My lab had only one testicle and didn't worry about it as people said sometime they are born that way, wasn't till several years later the 2nd testicle started growing near his stomach, it was cancerous, they took it out and said cancer could come back it did. lost the best dog I've ever owned and if I'd had the sense to take him to the vets when I first noticed instead of listening people. I would have owned him for many more years. Still not got over him

Thanks everyone. I'm going to leave it for a few months and see if he settles down at the new yard, it maybe that he just wants others to play with (instead of me)He's usually quite chilled out and has just come out of the horspital..so i think he is just feeling a lot better in himself generally... we will see!! and i'll keep you all updated
