After being lobbed off and knocked out by a spooked horse, I've had three weeks off in which I went to see a horse who was advertised as a "safe, sane, sensible cob" to which he was none of!! The experience terrified me and I had completely lost the passion for riding I had - I was scared of every horse I saw! Yesterday I went back to my current yard to meet a new horse who was exactly as described!

I had a fantastic ride on her, sticking to walk and trot, and even managed to do some work without my reins so I can improve my seat

She was excellent, and I'm in love. My OH seemed interested in loaning her, so will see how it goes - I'm riding her again tomorrow

It is frightening how many people want to sell a horse that is not as described. I bought a mare for my daughter who was calm and nice when we tried her. However she is a nightmare and totally unsuitable for my daughter. Not to mention constantly lame (its a long story) Loaning to buy would be best. Good luck.

Gorgeous_George - Definitely! We brought a horse in (which turned out to be the wrong one) and she spooked as I led her through a gate - my heart leapt out of my mouth! Luckily we were told she was the wrong horse - we'd actually caught a just broken youngster!!

Kayfm - The cob we went to see was massive! His crest was HUGE as was his belly, he was said to be excellent to catch, we arrived early to find the owner spending ten minutes trying to catch him as he ran away, we then went in the field and met him - couldn't believe his size! Stunning, but huge! Owner told my OH to lead him as she couldn't control him when he "behaved like that" unless he was in a pelham and two reins

The next 25 minutes were spent with the horse spinning round my OH in circles, jogging round him, attempting to bolt, barging, bucking and eventually rearing. In that time we'd moved about 2 metres. Owner reassured me he was a gem to ride but after my fall, I really didn't want to risk it. We were also told the horse had been eliminated from competitions and asked to leave because the judges assumed he was a stallion because of his behaviour.

ETA - It's a shame - with a bit more experience and confidence, the cob may have been ok but I had said several times about my accident and how I needed something less forward going and sane - that's what I got

They then had the cheek to say I was a timewaster

Hopefully after winter I'll be in a better position to loan as the owner doesn't want to loan or sell for a few months.

Thanks Hellspells, I hope so too!! He is very good to me, I'm lucky to have him. He was the shove that got me back into riding in the first place
