My breed of choice is the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and I currently just have the one dog at home, with another residing at my parent's house (after they fell in love with him when his owner returned him to me!)

There is so much nonsense in the media surrounding Devil Dogs etc and most people think of a Stafford as a massive great dog, not realising these 'Staffs' they see in the street are more or less mongrels with the amount of crossbreeding that's gone into them

So here is my boy, successfully shown all over the country and at Crufts, but most importantly loved more than anything at home :D

With his best mate

What a handsome boy and great photos too, I dont think anyone on this forum thinks of them as devil dogs, I dont own one but am a fan.

There are so many out there that are owned by idiots and being bred to god knows what which do a great disservice to the breed.

Thankyou :)

Hehe, no the title wasn't aimed at anyone on the forum - but as a tongue in cheek dig at the media!

He is gorgeous whats his posh name?
I am a huge staffie fan have one of my own have had lots over the years some fosters and a couple of my own. Amazing dogs! x

Beautiful pics, so nice to see a proper staffy. I've been at a Dogs Trust Open day and the amount of dogs that were supposedly staffy that were absolutely huge, all were lovely dogs though.

Beautiful photo's.

Love all Bull breeds tbh. My parents have a staffie from a pucker show line and he is a small stocky chap and the most gentle boy.

Thanks for the lovely comments guys! He really is an amazing dog and I couldnt have wished for more out of him. He is dog aggressive, but that doesnt bother me as I rarely have the need to walk him in public parks where there are large numbers of off lead dogs and their numpty owners. He just stays on lead if we are likely to encounter other dogs :) He is extremely obedient and well trained so it is highly annoying when other owners cannot control their dogs!

His reg'd name is Wyrefare Storm Warning; bred by Jim, Barbara and Barbara Ann Beaufoy, who are wonderful Stafford people

I love reds and have a red staffie boy too! it's also nice to see a stafford at the correct weight as I also see a lot of overweight ones and there is no reason for it. My oldest bitch looks very solid but has a lazy thyroid and the other 2 are in similiar weight condition to yours..

I have a "devil dog" too :D He regularly gets beaten up by the chickens :o and never once has he retaliated - bless him x

Isn't it true staffies were called 'nanny dogs' as they were so good with kids originally?
My uncle has a staff and he's lovely and gets so excited when next doors children knock to ask if they can play (supervised) with him.

Thankyou, he is easy to keep in condition and I usually have him sat at around 31lbs, if i am conditioning him specifically he comes in at 29lbs

in show condition aged around 18months

that term came about when dog fighting (which the stafford was originally bred for) was banned - as an incentive for families to get them and further the breed's popularity

even when they were fought they had to be amazingly well tempered with humans; who would have to pick them up after a fight, when they were in horrific pain, and tend to their wounds without danger of being bitten.

there are stories that the injured dogs were pushed home in the prams with the children, but how true this is I cannot say!!

personally I am not keen on the term as it suggests they are safe to be left unsupervised with children, almost like babysitters, which I don't believe should be said of any dog as numpty's may take it to be fact!

I've never doubted any Stafford I've owned in terms of being left with my son, but like all animals, they shouldn't be left unsupervised.
A dog cannot speak English and cannot say 'please little child stop pulling my ears/riding round on my back/tripping over my toes'!! they can only growl/raise a lip etc and if that warning goes unheeded the only other option they have is to bite.
I must stress no stafford of mine has uttered even a grumble, but that doesn't mean another rased by different people may not and so it is safer to never underestimate a dog - of any breed!

OP can I just ask, you say he is dog aggressive is this how he has always been or has he had a bad experience with another dog? I'm just wondering because a lot of posts I've read on this forum re staffies would indicate that on the whole they are not good with other dogs, would you say this is a typical trait of the breed?

I have to say, and I was remarking this to a friend the other day, I cycle with my dog close to quite a rufty tufty estate and we meet a lot of staffies.
They are all, to a dog, excellent with my dog, the owners call them to heel and sit and let us past and they never bat an eyelid...I have much more bother with other GSDs, I hate to say it, and small fluffy things, and people who let said small fluffy things get in between the dog and my bicycle wheels when I am moving *sigh**

I think those who are responsible and have staff's nowadays are going out of their way to make sure their dogs are well trained/sociable/ or on leads etc, hence there are many very well behaved Staff's out there now.....
