my usually chirpy dog has come in this evening very down has been sleeping all evening, shaking as if he was cold then panting

i dropped a bit of chicken on the floor and he just sniffed it and walked away :(

he usually eats anything you put in front of him but not this evening :(

can dogs get stomach bugs?

should i wait and see what he is like tomorrow before taking a trip to the vets?

Short answer yes they can get a bug but panting and shivering sounds like pain inside. Has he done the toilet at all or been sick? He may have eaten something that has stuck somewhere inside. Is his tummy sore if you prod it? Are his gums sticky (dehydrated)?

For me, off food = vets because mine is a gannet and it takes a lot to put him off his tea. With the panting and shaking too, I'd call the vets for their advice and quite possibly pop him in.

Agree. I was told that if a dog is off its food for 48 hours, it needs a vet, but combined with the other symptoms, it would be prudent to call the vet asp.
Mine had similar symptoms due to a blockage.
Hope your boy is back to his usual self soon.

Yes if mine did not eat a single meal, he would be going to the vet... blumming hoover creature.

I have probably replied late, but it could be a number of things, and I would definately go to the vets asap. Temperature could cause inappetance and shaking, so could pain, whichever way, needs some treatment xx
