My dog is a pain... any ideas??!

I have a 7month old JRT, who was having a regular 3 meals a day, as hes older now I have cut him down. BUT... if i feed him in the morning he's picky at night n doesnt really want anything and if i dont feed him in the morning hes starving at night, have tried a smaller portion in the morning but he's still being a pain at night lol!! He's fine weight wise, but what do I do for the best with him? O and its not an option leaving food down for him to get as and when he wants it because the other animals eat it...

Maybe you could give him a reasonable sized meal in the morning and then a buscuit-y bone type thing so that he has something to eat in the evening or basically something a bit different.

thats what i do i give my terrier a meat breakfast then a handful of bisciuts in the evening,she seems good on that

It shows how different we all are. I have always fed the main meal at about 7pm with just a snack at breakfast time.
We have only ever had one fussy dog and that was a tiny whippet who we had to convince to eat.

I usually fed my dogs four meals a day, sometimes only three, and I don't usually have any problem with their appetite.

If I've been down with flu (=short walks) for a week or so, I've had/are having dogs that might leave some food, but that's because I sometimes forget to cut down on their rations in such situations and some of them only ate/eats what they need.

I also usually only feed them after walks + I do feed them before I eat myself (did I hear anybody gasp for air?). It's just much easier for me to resist them IF they beg, when I know they've just eaten.
It's also milder for the body to digest several small meals a day, than one big.

That said I know a lot of owners thinks one meal a day, or maybe two, is what's appropriate for adult dogs.


Renvarg_Rosie how was his appetite when he was fed three meals a day? Did it change and that made you cut down to two?
Are you still feeding puppy-food? Maybe it's to rich for him/more than he needs and he needs to be on adult food? (I'm not saying all dogs knows what's "best" for them, but some can in certain situations have at least a clue.)
I would take a good look at his food, which energy level is it meant for and how big his portions are (by the way, I really dislike that so many foods sold in Sweden have tabular forms in grams and expects me to either get their scoop or weight at home to figure out what it equals in decilitres).

Then we also have the question, is there any possibility that he eats something during the day that you're not aware of?

My pups are now 8 months and they have 2 meals a day (breakfast and dinner). My last dog was only on 1 meal a day which she had in the evening.

thanks for all your replies... think am being fussy just worried he was not getting enough/too much, have never had a dog that turns away food before hehe.
And FinnishLaphund, I've found his appetite has just decreased gradually, hence me cutting down the meals and no he's not puppy food anymore, it didn't agree with him. He also eats more when other dogs around, but thats just him not wanting it but not wanting the others to have it either lol and as for eating in the day theres nothing he could get hold of, apart from the other dogs legs n tails....
