...and I'm not sure what to do about it.

We've got a lovely enclosed field near us, but for the past couple of months the council have borrowed a few cattle to keep the grass in check. They've now moved on and it's a perfect place to let him off for a run...but he now stinks of cow. It's got a stream going down one side and being a Newf he's straight in there, but the bank was a favourite cow chillaxing space as well and Eli doesn't watch where he puts his feet.

Wet dog smell I was ready for and isn't too bad. But downstairs now smells of a combination of wet dog, cow and the occasional dead animal he finds to roll in. The obvious solution is to bath him, but this would have to be outside with the hose (60kg of Newf is not getting in my bathtub!) and it'll take him about 3 days to dry. Plus at the moment his coat looks fab, and is workings beautifully so when he does go swimming he doesn't end up soaked through and I don't want to strip all the oil out with shampoo and ruin it. Plus chances are in a couple of days the smell will be back.

Has anyone tried one of the dog deodorisers and had any success with it?

I've tried the dog deodorisers with my collie - she is up at the stables all day with hubby and tends to smell like - well a stable! I didn't much rate the deodorisers to be fair - what I have started using is horse grooming products which seem to work OK and are really good for getting the bits of mud and other 'stuff' out of the longer fur (and she smells a bit better) and I've also (until we get wooden floors down in the living room) started using a carpet deodoriser which seems to work better than the dog one.

Other than that could you take him to a groomer?

I think a bath is your only answer and you HAVE to buy a blaster drier for this dog or you will take till next week to dry him...
I like the challengeair economy 200o k. Which will also be a godsend for you when he goes through his shedding period ...
Ahhh the joys of the big dogs LOL I,d forgotten...
