I am having trouble getting my rescue girl to go to the toilet ( number 2's ) at home and I have to get the car out to go to the park, woods or beach which is not always ideal when daylight is limited or I am busy.

I have 7 acres so there is plenty of space.

Any ideas as to how to encourage her to go at home.

I'm guessing that at home you are putting more pressure on her to perform (i.e. quick pitstop and back inside) whereas in the woods etc you are just enjoying the walk and things happen in their own time lol

my lurcher refuses to perform on the lead which is a real pain when he has an injury but I just ignore him do 2 laps of the garden then back inside. he holds on for as long as he can but eventually he has no choice so gets on with it (complete with disgusted expression ) i'm guessing you just need to let go of the anxiety and be more persisitent than she is. Also try saying nothing until she performs THEN say "go toilet" or whatever command you want as she is doing it, and reward immediately.

I don't think I put pressure on her at home as she has free rein but in the park she will go within 3 mins of arriving and this am I took her around the fields for an hour and nothing. I always praise her when she's gone and she is pretty switched on so am sure she knows she has been good.

Am at a loss to know what to do.

My dog does this, I prefer it actually and don't see it as a problem? No one wants to toilet where they sleep/rest/play. He will hold it for hours and the first thirty seconds of a walk is hilarious as he tries to find the right spot to go :p

I have the same, but think its a good thing but not when she's ill and needs to go whenever, we rehomed a springer she is 2 now, she will not do no 2's at home even when she had a bit of an episode against steroids !

She will reluctantly do a pee on her pee patch we made, I had to lift 4 slabs of our patio and get a piece of turf from b & q, she didn't use it for ages ages, then she must have been desperate and used it. If she can help it she won't, she goes out with my OH in the morn and I take her out in the eve, she will hold onto it all day til I take her out in the eve.

I don't know how she does it, if I gotta go, I gotta go, I can judge if she's pee'd during the day by the duration of her pee in the eve, I count how many seconds she goes for.

She has all day access to the garden as my mother is there, I didn't explain that bit !
