I went to do an unaffiliated Intro A walk and trot test today on Frodo, who has spent 2 years as a racing pony and who I have owned since the beginning of May. Since then he has had 4 weeks off with a swollen knee (wrenched it in the field) so our progress has been curtailed slightly!

As with most ex-racers, speed is Frodo's favourite thing - he jumps beautifully but at 100 miles an hour, he found a hack in the woods with 2 friends THE most exciting thing ever and trotted/cantered sideways (literally sideways) for almost the whole hour we were out.... you get the idea :) Today's aim was to actually get him into the indoor arena, if we managed any attempt at a test that would be a bonus :D

Well he was a complete and total superstar, I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of my little horse :) He loaded immediately, traveled politely and well, and was patient when I tacked up. Our 'warm up' was walking for 40 mins around the overflow car park (a grass field) so he didn't upset any other horses, then we went straight into the indoor arena to do our test. He walked straight in without batting an eyelid, ignored the music playing, was absolutely fine with the white boards and the flowers at each marker, and was just brilliant. I will admit that we didn't show (if any!) much walk :p he found it all very exciting, but he was lovely in trot and although tense he didn't rush as much as I'd expected and was quite controllable. We were emphatically last (54.13%.....) but he got 6s for his trot which I was very happy with for his first test, and I am delighted with him :) :)

A massive thanks to Wkiwi for all her advice, you have been so patient answering all my questions, thank you :)

A little pic of my gorgeous boy, who patiently waited for 2 hours tied to the lorry whilst his stable companion competed

Good for you, getting out there is what it's all about! That's not a bad exult for your first ever test together, onwards and upwards :)

Thanks JennBags :) We got 3s and 4s for our lack of walk :p so if he could actually manage to walk a few paces that would be a start :D Things, as they say, can only get better :)

Don't worry, I've had a 2 before! On a horse which I took to both winter and summer regionals at Novice this year - they settle to it, good effort for your first go :)

Thanks Suziq77 :) The judge did say he was a lovely horse and she really liked him - even though I know they always say that it made me smile a lot - can't wait until he settles, it will be practice practice and more practice :)

Just seen this Levrier, I was wondering how you were getting on with your new horse. Well done for a first try and what a relief that he is not fussed when his travelling companion leaves him.
Best of luck with lots more outings and hopefully the penny will drop that dressage is NOT exciting!!

What a lovely experience for your boy!!! Onwards and upwards!!!

He is very handsome!!!

Thanks atlantis :) I am somewhat biased but I think he is very handsome too.... :D :D

Thanks Chiffy :) I am taking him out again this weekend just to look round a different venue, hopefully things will improve soon :)

He's very handsome! Well done on getting him out there.

Thanks j1ffy :) More reports to come in due course, maybe with better results in future lol!
