I am moving my horse from livery to my field in my garden for the summer. There is no shade in his present field and where we are in france temps can get high. I would just like any views on my field mainly any tips on toxic plants etc. The first photo is of the view down to where he will have a shaded area by going into the woods. I will string this off so he cannot go all the way in but enough to be sheltered from the weather. I am just concerned he will eat the bushes and trees and get ill, what do you think? The 2nd and 3rd photo are a close up of plants in his shaded area in case anyone recognises toxic plants. The others are just general views. This is the first time I have added pictures so there is a risk this won't work, in which case I won't expect any replies and just apologise for looking like an idiot!!! (fingers crossed here I go!!!)

Hi, I am by no means an expert but can't spot anything obviously poisonous, think there is some hawthorn? (which is good for horses.) Plenty of grass so I wouldn't think horse would bother with the bushes/trees too much. If you are worried I would get hold of a tree/plant identification book so you can look up what they all are in order to know for sure. Other than that it looks very idylic and I am very jealous!

I can see the field and bushes fine, but you need to identify them before we can give any advice. Not sure how many of us are familiar with French vegetation. What a nice looking paddock - how big is it? It may not stay quite so nice once your horse has spent a couple of months in it, munching, rolling and charging about...

Its 4,000 sq meters. With a wooded area at the back. I was thinking of getting one of the farmers to cut the grass for hay before bringing him home as it is sooooo long, past my knees at the highest point!!! Is this a bad idea then? I do know that other horses have grazed there before I brought it, and all of them OK, but still worry as my boy is precious!! Also, with snakes are they likely to bite horses? I do know we get the odd one snake at this time of year. Will get myself a book to try and see what bushes and plants are there.
