Had my first ever days hunting with the york and ainsty south today. It was also twiggys first time who is my 5yo tb.

Had a fantastic time, really friendly bunch of people. Only hairy moment was when up by the first cover when they let the hounds out and they came streaming down the lane, had a bit of a rear and a leap, lathered in white sweat but after that was like a seasoned pro!

Not really knowing what I was meant to be doing I just followed everyone and stayed out the way and had a wonderful 4 hours until we went back. Didnt do any jumping as she has only showjumped at home and as i didnt know the country i thought just turning up was enough to cope with for one day!! It was fantastic to see my very normally 'precious' horse chugging through the mud which normally she would have an eppy at. Stopped at about 5 covers in total and the was a fair bit of galloping between where she was better behaved than the standing still bit to be honest!

She was very very wired when we got home though......weaving away in her stable, have been back tonight to give her a walk out etc and much calmer now though.

Planning to go again a week on saturday :)

Can anyone tell me how much 'proper' hunting differs from autumn hunting? There isnt much autumn hunting left and I want to find out wether we would be able to cope with the real thing!

Well done!
Full hunting is generally harder and faster than autumn hunting, and you will probably jump more. Youre' day will be longer so your horse needs to be that much fitter and the dress code changes from ratcatcher to hunt coat.
If your horse continues as well, you should be fine, but I would get as many more autumn hunting days in as you can - you may find she is more lively next time out as she knows what to expect!
Have fun!
