I think I'll stick to happy hacking, it's much safer

Chum is normally quiet and lazy but got rather excited in the mass canter round - it was a very busy class. We also got boxed in and I think he panicked a bit... I'm a novice rider so don't have the most secure seat and it caught me by surprise. Managed to stop him the third time tho'

I think we need a million lessons and a much quieter class before I attempt this showing malarky again.

Anyone else managed to look like a right tw*t in front of a crowd?

Been wall of death a few times. Dumped on my arse on Tuesday. It happens - all part of the learning experience for you both!

Well i have had a few embarrasing situations to be honest.

Once i went to view a mare to buy, got on her.....everything was fine and then the little cow bronked, bucked and basically dumped me as hard as she could through a jump in the middle of the school..........suffice to say i didnt buy her lol

Another time i was at a show and someones car / box backfired and my old pony shot off in a blind panic running blind through the show ground with me holding on for dear life lmao. i was only 8 haha.

Oohh I feel for you - At my big posh old yard there was a sj comp, where I didn't fall off, but I honestly wasn't expecting my cobby girl to behave so strange! After each jump she was acting like some hyperactive child gone mad.....Very embarassing....leapt over the dressage barrier and I thought for a moment she was going to jump the arena fence.... Mind you, the three jumps we bombed at flat out gallop stayed up, so I call that a clear round....

I was instructed to go back in there with a 3ring gag on the bottom ring, but I thought if her head got any higher I would be knocked out LOL!!

Good Luck for the future though, onwarsd and upwards I say to myself, though I struggle when I'm lying in the mud very, very winded, and pony has peed off into the distance...

happens all the time, to anyone! you gotta fall off 100 times before you can call yourself a rider....apparently! my worst moment was at cheltenham show in 2001...i fell off at a fence in front of collecting ring, but did it in slow motion. i really shouldnt have worn teddy-bear knickers under white jodhpurs, especially when trying to impress the pony club heart throb!!!!!!!!!!!

Fell off whilst trying a horse to buy, child who owned pony, child's friends, mother of child, mother's friend and YO all watching - managed to break my nose and finger and bleed all over the mother's cream jodphurs - nearly gave up horse hunting at that moment!! Why do we have to endure these experiences to improve?!

at my first show as an adult I went into the 65cm showjumping and got through to the jump off.Feeling really pleased with myself I went into the jump off very confidently and was going great until I got to the double.I jumped the first part no problem but felt my horse backing off so yelled out to her to ' get up' which she promptly did clearing the fence with a good 3' to spare.Only problem was she jumped to the right and I went left only to be deposited on the floor right in front of the photographer and the st john ambulance crew.I did hurt myself but due to the embarrassment factor of a large crowd watching I had to get up.Meanwhile my horse decided to tank off around the course and refuse to be caught.Needless to say my horse was extremely proud of the fact she had got me off.Eventually a steward managed to catch her for me and we certainly got the biggest round of applause of all the rounds.I later ended up in the casualty department with a suspected broken collar bone.

Thanks for replies - seems like a few of us have had these 'moments'

I'm fine thanks, more bruised ego! I managed to double my falling off tally in 2 minutes!!

If I ever have this mad idea to try showing again I will try and go to a little local show where they get no more than 6 in a class so I've got a bit more room to manouvre and get my act together!
