Yes, today I have finally fallen off for the first time since I was about 11. And it was spectacularly pathetic! We had a "Fun Jumping Day" at the riding school and I got to join in for free because Scooby needs the experience. We were split into pairs for lessons in the morning, then in the afternoon there was a little competition... in my lesson, I went over the first part of a double and we landed badly (my fault, I was so unbalanced!) and Scoob obviously didn't think it would be sensible to jump the second part... unfortunately, there was a slight failure in communication so I launched myself over it without him.
The horrendously embarrassing thing is, it wasn't a proper refusal - he just slowed to a walk and halted in front of the jump. I was just so busy focusing on getting over it that I didn't even realise he wasn't going forwards until it was too late!
Apparently it was hilarious to onlookers
and it didn't really hurt, so I was laughing too... but now there's a massive bruise on my arm from landing on the jump wing.
They should make those things out of foam or something!
I got back on and redid the jump, so I was pleased with myself for that (anyone who knows what a massive wuss I am would be impressed
), but when it came to the competition we had another refusal and a fence down so we didn't get placed. All completely my fault, I was riding like even more of a numpty than usual today! Scooby was a little angel, and got two apples in his feed as a reward.
Anyway, I'm kind of pleased it's happened now because I knew I'd have to fall off some time! Now let's hope I can go another seven years before the next one.
