Well today was my first ride in my polite set. I brought it because of the big hiviz thread on here (I always wore a tabard but horses did have any) and because of seeing that horrible picture of the dead horse on the side of the road.

There was a big difference. Almost every car slowed down significantly and as I thanked the cars almost all of them smiled and thanked me!! That never happens!!

I did gulp a bit as a police car drove past but they just thanked me and said hello!

So really positive first ride out. I doubt it will last that long as its on the cheap and flimsy (tat) and for the money I'm surprised it's that cheap but it did make a difference!

Annoyed horse did not want to pose for pictures!!!

Attractive!!!!! All we need now is a neeeeeee naaaaaaw siren for high speed persuits!!! :p

:)

I do love the idea behind the Polite stuff but I'm always worried that its not actually legal in some way? Sort of like impersonating the police but not really? Its great that its had such a dramatic effect though!

It's legal :) It says so on the packaging (I know, you can't believe stuff just because it says so, but it's sold everywhere, so the police would have said if it wasn't legal)

Wonderful pic :D I can't wait until I can get the full Polite range! (Btw, my polite tabbard is really good :O not cheap tat at all!)

Interestingly I do believe that they have made claims which are false - something along the lines of "police approved" which is not actually the case. But I could be wrong on that.

*cue rhino, font of all knowledge*

They have just started doing mounted police officers on horseback in rural norfolk and they wear the same gear so maybe people think you are impersonating a police officer. I know you are not but it does look like that.

Looking fab! Let me know where to find one of those sirens ;)
I also notice a huge difference when I wear my polite tabard compared to when I wear my "please pass wide & slow".

After seeing this, I will do anything in my power to keep my horses and I safe on the roads...

Looing good in the HiViz Polite kit. I asked my bosses husband who is quite high up in the Police force about the Polite Notice stuff & he said he would never stop someone in it - hasn't got a clue whether it is ok or not... but would rather thank a rider for wearing it than deal with a fatality on the roads....then he said less paper work for him!!!!

.......forgot to mention - where can I get a copy of the fatality picture above? I would like to put it on my FB page...

these are fab!!! and are completely legal!! when my horse bolted from me and the police had to come and ''arrest'' him they said they loved my tabbard so i asked if they were ok to be wearing as had been told they were illegal and the officer started laughing and said i think you will be fine as long as you and your horse are safe then they are ok. he also said unless it actually says ''police'' then theres bugger all they can do x

looking great :D after that thread and the picture i also ordered some more hi-viz, i already had a tabbard and exercise sheet but i've also now got leg bands because of the whole movements attracts attention thing :)

Not sure... You could get the picture by just saving it with a right click, but you wouldn't get all the FB story. If you message me on here you could add me on FB and get it from me :)

Cor you do look the biz :) and safer, which is the main thing.

I too thought there was something not quite kosher about some of the claims of endorsement etc but don'rt know where I picked that speculation up from. But I'd still carry on wearing it if it had that response :)

That's really good. I think they would struggle to really tell you off about it as its only a safety thing, I'm hardly trotting round catching baddies and arresting people!!

I do think it looks good on big bays but I think it looks weird on smaller/cobbier/coloured horses/ponies.

I think it's going to look silly on my spottie horse!! Unconventional police pony!!

The funny thing is Lilly looks the part, tall (albeit weedy) bay horse, she could never ever be one though as although she's ridiculously brave about anything she HATES standing still!! She does it begrudging way but hates it!!!!

FAB!!! I've got the quarter sheet & "Polite" tabard; plus a Hi-Viz neckband & the chequered hat-band.

Wore it out for the first time the other day: one boy-racer saw us and jammed on his brakes (not helpful!) but did say "sorry" through the open window; man-in-white-van crawled past; another person walking the dog said "are you on duty?". So it does work. But you have to make sure you look the part so need a dark/navy/black T-shirt and plain jods in either black, navy, or beige.

Ditto boots. If wearing this sort of gear its a definite no-no for bright pink joddies - its the total look you need to aim for.

My boy's a huge chunky piebald cob; very heavyweight so looks the part OK.

we get excellent results, with short legs being 14.2 hh and piebald - I think peeps slow right down to do a double take with us :D

I checked with a Police friend - he said it was fine, particularly as when they sell redundant kit off, and just tape over the word "police" and sell it like that!

I have a big 16.1hh cob, and when I wear my polite tabard, people do slow down. I am just waiting for my legwraps and headband to come in - there seems to be a big increase in demand on the polite stuff - wonder why???

Does anyone have trouble with the legwraps being enormous? On my mare they overpass the velcro, and only have about 2cm that sticks together. I would say she has more bone than the horse in the picture. They don't fit my friend's horse either. They just are just about small enough for my 17h hunter with good bone! I wish the velcro strip went right the way round. Or am I doing something wrong??

Someone at our RC has a huge horsebox that has a faded "South Yorks Police" on the side where some stickers have clearly been removed before it was sold!

If it were illegal they would have stopped all these white vans that have markings like policevans driving around a long time ago...

Yeah someone on hear showed me a link to a ex police jacket on eBay but I didn't get it because I only go hacking off the farm in the summer really!

My horse has black brushing boots on under the wraps so they fit quite nicely, the front ones would be way too big without the boots on, could probably get away with the back ones without the boots, just!!!
