I have just arranged to loan my first horse and am so happy I could burst!
He is 9yr old hunter and I have been sharing him for a couple of months. When I met him he hadn't been ridden for 18 months. The YO had taken him on because she felt sorry for him. He was going to be shot as he was really lame and had navicular. He had been hunted in Ireland and was then a whippers in horse over here. He ended up on a lot of bute and steroid injections and was in a lot of pain.
The YO took his shoes off and just let him rest. Gradually reduced the bute till nothing, only Devils claw.
I fell in love with him when I met him and spent a lot of time walking him in hand to built up some strength, then started riding him, just walking at first.
Not so long ago I did my first sponsered ride on him and it was brilliant. I am not the most confident rider but I just feel so safe on him. He is 16.3h and jet black.
It has been wonderful watching him get fitter and more confident and happy in himself.
The only sad thing is the navicular and I'll just have to see how it goes. I know that there will be some difficult decisions one day. But for now I am just enjoying the moment.
I am keeping him on the yard as I will have access to so much help and support.
I just wanted to share this as none of my family are horsey so cannot understand why I am so delighted.
