Right,I think I'm going to finally consider getting myself something later in the year.

It's been a bad time recently,so would like that to ease first though.

I haven't ridden 'properly' since my exam last June and have had a fair few confidence knocks over the years,so am well aware of what I need.

Basically, I'm going to need a 15.2 ish,mare/gelding. Age immeterial.....but not young, way past youngster saga! preferably able to carry novice hubby, who would like a pootle. Looks are totally immaterial,as is known breeding etc,but would rather not have a gypsy cob if poss. Kindness is the most important, confidence giving sort to get me back in the swing and start enjoying it again. Also,I would like to be able to ride and lead my young son on his pony,so bombproof is paramount!

Basically, kind, family friend sort.....come on guys how many thousands is this going to cost me??

Well, you're not wanting something to take you to the olympics! A steady eddie that is capable of doing a bit of everything and is nice to boot shouldn't be mega bucks imho, yes they can be up to 5k, although that ime is something with a bit more comp experience. I would look around and don't be fooled by pretty pictures = big price.

I know you say you don't want a gypsy cob, but don't be put off cobs/coloureds entirely

i think you would get something for 2k. my mum has been looking for exactly the same as you but around 14.2 and please dont rule out gypsy/coloureds i love them! and when i got my first pony he was a piebald and my mum looked at him and said what you want that!! because he was a big fat hairy cob but now its all she has looked at.

I'm sorry if I have offended anyone with traditional gypsy cobs on this site.......I'll get linched!

I actually don't mind them at all,but would rather not have to cope with lots of feather as my land is clay and bogs up = nightmare feathers!

I actually like cobs....and coloureds

Not sure on price but i do know that finding that sort is the hard bit (having looked for clients in the past) They normally get sold word of mouth and often don't even get advertised!!
