A bit of good news.My heater in my tropical fish tank stopped working and I thought my fish were dead apart from the large plec. but I put in new heater and its all go again.I think they just went to sleep in the plants and rocks.Sorry if you think I am sad but I felt guilt that I had killed them

Well I think its great breaking news that your fish are still alive! It nice to have a happy ending for a change!

My fish weren't so lucky, all our pond fish died before we built their new pond when we moved becaue the sir line fell out in the night and they were all floating in the morning except 3 goldfish which we have rehomed because we are not having fish anymore! We had 30 fish, mainly giant Koi Carp some of them were 25yos soo very big! Still feel the guilt now!

Thats great news, I get very upset if any of my fish die

What was the temperature in the tank then?

I had a lovely pakistani loach that got stuck in a tank ornament and scraped off all the slime on his back and sides. The cat fishes started nibbling the dead skin away which I didn't think was much of a problem but the next morning they had actually started eating away at his flesh

We moved him out to a different tank but he was too badly injured to survive and died the next day, I'm ashamed to admit I cried

I love my fishes!!

O dear. Do they move around or are they always in the same place on the fish?

If they move around they are leeches. Go to your nearest pet store and see if the do a medication for large parasites- beware with this though as it will kill the nice bugs aswell. Alternatively you could bath the fish in a 2.5% salt solution for 15 minutes. This will paralyse the leeches and they will drop off the fish. This method is time consuming though as you have to repeatedly treat the fish as the leeches will keep swimming off as you catch the fish.

If they stay in one place they are anchor worms. They burrow into the skin and muscle of the fish. To remove these you need to dap some 0.1% potassium permanganate onto them with a cotton bud or brush to kill them and then remove them carefully from the fish using tweezers. Treat the pond with a fungal medicine to make sure the fishes wounds don’t get infected.

Good luck x

I had exactly 8 tropical fish about 3 months ago.
Sadly all of the fish died! I was told afterwards that my tank (A giant round tank) apparently stores nasty stuff that is impossible to clean so thats why they died.I cleaned it regularly and had all the books and did eveything right. I guess thats life! Well itl teach me to stop buying things just because they look trendy.DONT BUY A BIORB ANYONE! rawrrr

We've got a tropical marine tank and it's nearly as much work as the horses!

I have spent most of today assisting my OH in fitting a new sump and weir.... He's still hard at it and my lounge is a complete tip and strewn with pipes, fittings, filters etc and there's a decidedly fishy smell too

I do love watching the fish, but can't believe how much work they are, good job they are his and not mine or they would be gone by now!
