Why do some people have a funny attitude about Cobs ??
I might be sounding like im easily upset but its really getting on my nerves, my friends snobby attitudes towards my horse because he is 'cobby', he isnt massivley built anyway, sec D x Fell, hardly a draft horse...

I constantly have comments off them like
-'oh well I wouldnt buy him hes kinda cobby' and they all think because hes not a twiglet that he cant jump ! (try 4ft for not being able to jump ! )
-anything that is a slight issue its 'oh well he is quite cobby isnt he'
-'well he must be a lazy...hes a cob'..... 'well he would be fat...'

and generally just sneering at my little baby ! They all also asume for some reason that this makes him a plodding doss to ride.
Why is there some kind of snobb attitude against them with some people?

I know they arnt suited for everything (at least when you get to a level) BUT a few of them would be a bit better suited on a well set, big boned cob than their string-bean arab types (if you get my drift.. )

Its seriously getting on my nerves! Anyone else experience this and have had enough of it too !!?!

here is my 'cob' (excuse the sweaty saddle mark !)

Sorry, bit of a rant ..... but the constant off-hand remarks from so called mates are wearing me down.... :(

Choose better friends, preferably with a brain and that have some iota of how versatile cobs can be.:)

Or tell them to poke their opinions up their ar*e.

He hardly looks massively cobby anyway!!
Intact he looks like he could be a good jumper
Powerful back end haha :D

I will admit I am not the biggest fan of cobs
(owing to someone I know who is extremely novicey and believes cobs are the best thing that ever walked the earth and anything else should be allowed in the country as they are not native!)

But there is a cob type I ride sometimes and he is an absolutely fantastic jumper and very quick against the clock and can turn on a sixpence

Take no notice of them he looks lovely

I used to be a little like that but kept my thoughts to myself.

But guess what I just bought? A cob, & a cob which makes yours look like a TB!
Ignore them, he looks lovely.

He looks a bit like my pony who I did guess the breed with the other day! Both my horses are 'cobby' I've nothing against them but for me its just the word cob that makes me cringe. Its a term thats too widely used and gets the wrong connotations!!:(:o

Exactly, I wouldnt even really call him a cob....

they seem to right off anything heavier than a TB/Araby type and spend all the time when they want to buy looking for a ISH so lightly built its unatural..

He is stood uphill btw if he looks a bit funny... I dont know they just always play on my insecurities that I worry if hes put together ok.... :S gahhhh

Yes your right I probably just should tell em to shut-up or boot them... or both !

I would grow some cobby-like thick skin and start poking fun at their string-beans (fnnaarrr - I like it!)

If cobs were infact dross-of-the-earth... why does nearly every breed (ecxept arabs) have a lineage back to a cob/pony?????

Yes i know what you mean - i have 2 cobs and a TB what pees me off more is people who say they don't want Tbs as there nuts etc........bah

I do know what you mean but I absolutely love my Cob. The cobbier, hairier, the better!
I am currently looking for a horse I dont actually care if it has two heads. No interest if its pretty, ugly. I found a very scruffy horse in an advert the other day and was quite disappointed to find out it wasnt available anymore! (It was not a looker but sounded just what I was looking for)!

I like the chunkiness of them, I find them quite comical, for some reason? Feathers etc Fabulous!

Hmph, I heard someone comparing my welsh D to her TB, something like, yes but my horse is 'quality', yeah well, at least I could ride my mare!

I'd much rather have my sweet, brave pretty cob than her silly fragile creature that couldn't gallop without making squeaky wheezy noises, horses for courses eh?

it's ok on my yard we have a couple of people who look down on cobs ( I have 2) plus the fact I am a field livery, it apparently makes me the lowest of the low ... oh well ... ;0)

i like TBs and cobs as long as they are not too hairy/feathery

my friend has a comtois..thats heavey and she hacks and jumps her

it would be boring if we all liked the same

A) tell them to ****** off, you have a gorgeous horse and why do they care anyway-they jealous?
B) get out, compete and ruddy well show them!

Frankly, they're not mates if they do this.

I know where you are coming from........

I do pleasure rides with my friend, we both ride cobs. Take great pleasure in letting all the arabs etc overtake whilst we are still walking (warming up for first mile) and then usually over take the lot in the next few miles and have untacked, washed down, loaded, had tea, etc, etc, before they get back....!

Gives us a real laugh when people look down their noses at us before we start, but very annoying when the odd awkward person doesn't let you pass easily because they obviously think you will hold them up - NOT!

I was right with you until the draft horse bit. My draft horse, an Ardennes (Trait Ardennais) is a very active little horse who is an absolute sweetheart. If you do not like people slagging off cobs, don't slag off other breeds of horse.

I love cobs and had one many years ago. People choose their horses for different reasons. Please don't complain about people being prejudice about cobs, then put down other horses such as drafts or Arabs.Believe me "constant off-hand remarks" annoy me too.

BTW. your pony is gorgeous but I don't think he is a proper cob.

That is very grown up and wise FDC - I am guilty of that... consider me told :( thanks for some perspective :D

No I didnt mean it like that I was using them for a size comparison.. prospective is the word I think (?). If you didnt get what I was meaning about the arabs I mean I have some friends who are a little to ehem 'large' to be riding their type of horse.
Sorry if any offence it wasnt ment.

OP - welcome to my world as it was 4-5 years ago. The difference is that in that time, so called friends have bought and sold many twiglet, thin warmblood or TB type things because they dont do what it says on the tin. My 14.3hh Irish cob, who is LW/MW, extremely handsome and versatile has dont it all and more for me. He has taken me showing and won many times, beat many a posh 16.2hh warmblood at dressage, has done me proud at many a hunt meet, and has jumped many a large stone wall in our hunting country. He also is great on the roads, loads without a whimper, is fab to clip, shoe, catch, eats barely nothing and basically is an all round good boy. In all that times, friends have changed their horses a few times, as they dont do what they bought them to do. My little cob, now 18 years old, has done it all and more. The laugh is now they all love him! He is the elder statesman on the yard and we dont get any more snobbery.

The reason is that my little chap can do it all and more. We dont have anything to prove. Ignore your friends as much as you can. Its probably jealousy. Your horse is lovely, continue to have lots of fun.

Oh, and by the way, I also own a warmblood!

He's a bit "cut n shut" isnt he?
Having said that, if he does what you want him to do, then whats the problem?

Ahh thanks...they tell me he looks wierd too. Guess I should face reality though really, hes apparently odd looking ...

And yes he does what I want him to do. He jumps big, he hunts, he hacks alone, is bombproof and schools well. They just seem to insist upon me he is good for nothing..
I think I have confidence issues in just letting them walk all over me.

I actually think he is a nice looking pony, can't see the "cut and shut" myself. Look you need to take absolutely no notice of what others say. I have had all sorts of nasty comments about Fany. But everyone who actually knows her knows she is the sweetest, kindest mare you could meet, not mareish at all. On the other hand I also have a very flashy ( when groomed) looking KWPN, funny I never get snide remarks about him! But much as I love my lad, and he is my love and sweetheart my mare is actually a much nicer person to work with.

If he suits you, s*d 'em. What do they know?

Yes I think I am going to have to man up !
a la Gok Wan, I think we need some 'body confidence' lol

P.S your coloured is beautiful !!!

take him to dressage and woop the ass of them. Thats what we do with ours. :D

(should I sort my awful hands and funny expressions out I hope we could, nothing like dreaming eh?! )
