Just want some ideas really...

My poor goldie started with a very watery eye after we returned from Somerset about a week ago.
We took her to the vets, where they diagnosed an ulcer and gave us eye drops - a week later there was no improvement, and if anything she looks worse, the eye is slightly swollen, she is clamping it shut all the time and its weeping like mad.
They've given us different eye drops and took some swabs and after a few days, it doesn't look any better - we are due back on Friday to see what she says.
Anybody got any experience of it?

Aw your poor dog that must be horrible for her, I would have thought as no improvement on 2nd lots of drops that she must have a foreign body lodged in there like a grass seed. Ask your vet for another examination to be on the safe side.

See a referal eye specialist right away.I never consider any tricky eye conditions..which this is proving to be..a job for what is essentually a GP.Eyes in dogs are complicated, don`t delay. If she is a golden retriever they suffer many eye defects, and swelling might be glaucoma.Nasty condition, extremely painful, and if left the retina can lift off the back of the eye resulting in blindness.

As EK, ask for a referral if your vets aren't able to get to the bottom of the problem. Have they had a really good look at the eye with dye in etc? When my old GSD had a sore eye, which came on virtually overnight, my vets found a tumour and acted very quickly, she was operated on the next day. However with Buffy's sight problem they couldn't immediately identify a problem so referred her to an eye specialist. Hope your girl is soon sorted out .

Brig had an ulcer and had to have an operation. The vet said she peeled away layers like an onion. His eye looked very inflamed, was virtually closed. The ulcer was very apparent with the dye in. He had the eyelid sewn shut til it healed with a funny button thing on the lid to hold it in place.

I wouldn't delay if it concerns his sight: back to the vet.

We are due back tomorrow anyway where they said if no improvement they will consider a procedure (I suppose the same as your dog cinnamontoast??) the ulcer is incredibly visible with the dye - doesn't look AS swollen today, but is still watering, bless her.
I hope its nothing more sinister than a very stubborn ulcer

Poor lamb, it's such a swine when they can't tell you if it hurts. Tbh, Brig's procedure was easy, he recovered quickly and we got some great gruesome pictures. :o He was fine afterwards and we just had to keep him on the lead for a while in case he caught the button, ouch. Hope your girl recovers quickly. :)
