My horse has just been tested for cushings as he is quiet, and basically uninterested in work.

He's 16.2hh TB type, 14 years old and has been eventing this year and although he is doing everything i ask he is just dull :-(

He has had reoccurring thrush this year and has had a snooty nose on and off for about 4 years but the vets have never been concerned. His stable is very wet of a morning but i wouldn't say he his drinking excessive amounts and his condition is very good and coat is shining. I did have to clip him earlier than my other eventers though as he did have a longer coat earlier.

The vets don't seem to think his acht levels are particularly high though.

Can anyone give me any info, advise, own experiences please? Thank you

It can be little more than guesswork based on an internet forum but the cushings symptoms I see that my horse had were
lethargy/reduced capacity for work
peeing
poor immune system/ie snotty nose on and off, possible infection
and for me having to clip earlier. I hadn't realised this but I always had the clippers out very early for him as he really struggled otherwise. His coat didn't even appear that long.
This year, after a year on prascend, I am not even thinking of clipping him yet. He did 3 hours work today unclipped, in other years he wouldn't have managed anything like that. My test results were negative and I decided to trial prascend based purely on his symptoms.

So you have the choice, leave it and see if he improves (perhaps something else is wrong), or trial prascend and see if you get improvements.
There are currently another couple of cushings threads on here. The wide range of symptoms are listed on one of them. They may give you some ideas one way or another.

Thank you. The vet is bringing me 60 days of prascend tomorrow for a trial anyway. As the vet seemed unsure i am was willing to give it a go and since writing this i have read the other posts and found the false negatives interesting so that has made me even keener to try the prascend. I'm willing to try almost anything to see the sparkle back in his eyes.

Do you know if they are allowed to compete whilst on prascend?

You get more false results with ems than cushings but i would give him half a tablet a day for a week and then up it to 1 tablet a day...also rethink his diet...check out the facebook group PPID/EMS :)
