My horse suffers really bad with pollen allergies this time of year and I have finally found something that works (Pollenex). However, due to her acid tears she already has two large bald patches on her face where the hair has burnt away this spring. These patches are now pure skin and are very sensitive.

Has anybody got any ideas how I can soothe/mend the skin so she is looking healthy again. At the moment she looks like she has two big black eyes! :(

Thanks for you help.

I have just ordered some aloe vera antiseptic spray from Robinsons will this do the trick do you think or shall I get basic aloe vera gel?

I would make a weak solution of bicarbonate of soda to bathe the area around the eyes then use pure aloe vera gel. You could also try making a waterproof "dam" with vaseline which directs the tears around and away from the bald patches to give them a chance to heal. I have to do this in the summer when I have suncream on my mush when I go cycling - get that in your eyes and you don't half know about it. I rub a chapstick around my eyebrows and down to my temples to stop the sweat and cream getting in my eyes.

My friend's horse is much better since the vet flushed out her tear ducts. It has made all the difference to her and only took a few minutes at home with her sedated.

The stuff they put on babies bums for nappie rash - Bepanthen (sp)? It not only heals, but it waterproofs the skin a bit (like vaseline) to stop the moisture irritating the skin again.
