my horse has "dry" skin

just wondering if anyone knows what this may be - my horse seems to have developed what i can only describe as dry skin around his nose/muzzle area and on his bum (actual bum bit lol) its flakey and peeling off - not sore or really bad but bad enough to notice and it seems to get worse each day... any ideas??
 
Couldn't just be still growing his winter coat...and the flakey bits are the old hairs' roots? Other than that I don't know...feeding oil can make the coat and skin shinier...linseed oil is meant to be the best but corn oil is also digestible

but there no hair on his muzzle!its the actual skin that is peeling off like how sun burn peels of... he is fed soya and cod liver oil

Ah, now that could be some form of allergic reaction to something he is in contact with. Or it could be photosensitivity.
Remind me again - is he chestnut or does he have Arab blood, as I believe they are more prone?

The only things I can think of are ringworm (has circular pattern lesions, fungal disease normally caught from cattle), rainscald...in wet warm weather....sweetitch (but it's in the wrong place) or some form of photosensitive reaction and/or deficiency. I did a bit of a Google for you but only found;

Perhaps your vet could take skin scrapings and/or blood tests to find out what it is...?

Edited to add - if you post a photo, maybe someone will be able to identify the condition for you?
 
thanks heaps but i dont think it could be anythng from that article as he hasnt lost any hair as theres none in those areas to lose!!
i dont think its ringworm as no circular patterns just literally skin flaking off...
hes not been near any cattle
def not sweet itch either..
ets its not bothering him in any way as far as i can see
 
not sure about the nose part but we have got one at work flakey backend looked in it its coat had lice been fine since we powdered it check just in case
