He has had a month off whilst I have been away and has gone feral! My Sil has been looking after him but he's been living out and I think she had just checked him over but not brought him in. He was fine when I came back sat, I caught him, brought him in and put fly spray in, yesterday he took of spooking away from me and the new horse eating body brush I had in my hand, wouldn't let me catch him and hearded all his mates away from the danger! left him to it for an hour and then he came straight up to me. Today he threatened the same but decided to come anyway. Brought him in, gave him a treat and groomed him for hour, he was fine. A bit of gentle lunging, fine again. Popped in for a walk and little bit of trot . Everything became terrifying, the jump poles he'd lunged past, the fence, some invisible monster behind a dock leave. He spooked and put it some whopping bucks causing me to hit the deck, straight back on but he was on his toes, continued to spook but his best one was at his own trump!!!! You know your horse has lost the plot then! I think we will be doing some bonding and desensitisation work over the next few weeks! Anyone else's horse do this after time off? I kept thinking if I sold you you horror I could afford more holidays 😀 but I'm hoping it's just a blip if time off and doing grass!

Mine has had 6 months off (I broke my hip in November) and I'm just starting to do groundwork with her. She was also diagnosed with grade 2 ulcers and finished her treatment about a month ago. She's a handful - bolshy but not nasty - so am breaking it down to small sessions and will then send her away to be brought back into work (I'm still not riding and she needs someone a little less physically restricted to start her again). I might try some magnesium too!!
