My horse has recently been diagnosed with Kissing Spine unfortunately she wasn't insured as she was only 4 and had a 5 * vetting certificate, stupid I know and I had to cover the bills myself.

I now want to get her insured obviously its going to be difficult to ensure a horse with kissing spine, are any insurance companies likely to insure her?

If you shop around you will get insurance but there will be exclusions on the insurance. The obvious one would be for future back problems but you may also find that they exclude things like hind suspensories or other conditions that may be related. The big reputable companies will always insure but they will be clear on what will be excluded. You are of course legally obliged to disclose the KS. It is probably still worth having it to cover for injury, colic etc and also for 3rd party cover.

ETS I found KBIS very helpful when changing insurance companies for our lad who had suspensory issues. The still covered absolutely everything else at a sensible price and always paid on time with no quibbles.

You wont be able to have your horse insured for the kissing spine problem and that could be a bit of a problem.

My mare had a KS operation last year and it came to over £5000 with all the treatment. She had 7 impinging vertabrae and in the op 4 tops were removed. I tried the injection route before surgery and that cost £1000

When was your horse diagnosed and why didn;t you get her insured in the first place? You will more than likely be able to get veterinary cover on most equine insurance but will definitely have the KS excluded, that;s if you're honest and declare it in the first place!
