Well last week I got my horse in from the field, give him a brush picked out all four feet put him to bed. Next morning I was mucking out around him and i moved him over and I noticed he has lost a shoe, It was there the night before and he hadnt been out since.

Anyway a week later and still cant find it. it is not in his bed I think he must have eaten it lol. Luckily though I had the farrier booked for the day he lost it so all was not lost.

And then yesterday, He was in the field having a bit of a gallop think the flies were driving him mad as he doesnt usually hooney around that much.

Brought him in and brushing him over, he had cut the bulb of his heel. I thought oh my god looked worse than it is, I got some hot water and hibiscrubbed it clean. put some spray on it to keep it clean. He wasnt lame yesterday, should be ok today but going to keep an eye on it, if it looks suspicious then vet will be out straight away but as I cleaned it etc nothing much more could have been done really.

Honestly having a big 17.2 sometimes is not a good thing he never knows where his legs and feet are lol.

The shoe thing has happened to us before, we had to take the whole bed out in the end. After a week and a half had gone by. It was in the deep litter but was burried so much we would have never seen it.

Lol My bed isnt deep littered though? Its so weird I take all the wet and poo out everyday and it is soo random? I definitly know it is in the stable though as I had picked out feet etc before he went in stable.
It has baffled us all at the yard.

I wouldnt mind though its not like its a little shoe to find either.

could u have picked it up already whilst mucking out but not have noticed?!
its random lol

If he has cut his heel, are you abosulutely certain the shoe isn't in the field? I know that one shoe-less foot should stand out when you're hoofpicking, but sometimes one's mind isn't totally on the job in hand

If you are definite that it is in the bed, get a metal bar of some sort -even an electric fencing stake with the metal end and 'stir' his bed around. You should hear it 'clang' if it finds the shoe.
We used this method with success at our old yard where horses were always losing shoes in the very deep round pen

Lol I am going to have to do that to find the shoe, going to annoy me untill then.
Well he cut his heel yesterday, and he lost his shoe last week.

I have ocd really when it comes to shoes. when I pick them out I have to check them making sure no nails in wrong places etc. And as I walk him back to stable I always listen out for the 4 beat of the shoes hittin the floor. I know I am weird
