Hi

My horse is going out on loan today for 2 years! A bit apprehensive about him going as love him to bits but know its the best thing as haven't got the time or money at the moment. He's also going to a good loan home. Not sure what the point in this post was, lol. x

One of mine is out on loan - saw her last night at Pony Club SJ training and they often come here to stay/play. I couldn't be happier and the pony is cared for better than my own. I hope your experience is as good as mine but mine is only about 10 miles away and I kept a close eye on them after she went. They came to me for a month and had lessons on her and carry out her operating instructions to the letter. I am very lucky. You need to watch them (discreetly) for a while and be cheered if they keep in touch voluntarily, rather than have to be chased. Make sure you have a good contract drawn up, too.

Good luck, I hope you can hold back the tears and are not too lost tomorrow morning. You have done the right thing if you can't look after him/her the way you want to, either with time or money.

My old boy went on loan whilst I was at uni, he ended up staying 4 years whilst I went travelling, it was the best thing I did for him. He wasn't even advertised but they kept ringing me up in my halls asking if they could have him, a cunning plan between my family, instructor and the LOVELY new family.

I really hope you have a positive experience and find something else to channel your energies into. Hugs x

PS I 'loose' a horse too next week, my sister is going to keep my young girl ridden whilst I recover from a broken back, so 6 months +. The sad part is once i'm back home after Christmas i'll be 200 miles apart. Thankfully I still have the dear boy at home with his friends to pony pat...and lug hay and feed too in the darkest of winter nights!!!

Good luck! I've just transferred ownership of my horse this morning so in the same sort of boat. Keep busy, I've just tidied the house and eaten a box of krispy kreme's new chocolates (maybe not do the latter as not so good for you but keeping busy is definitely a good thing)

I have got a good contract in place and am going to go back in a couple of weeks to see how he is getting on. He was so good today though, he hasn't been in a trailer in over 2 years and is still only 6yrs old and he walked straight on. Then he munched his way through hay the whole way as took about an hour.
Then he was so good in his new place. He was so at home that before the lady had even took his lead rope off he was trying to roll around and play in the straw! lol.
So turned out quite well since when I got down the field this morning he was hurtling round in gallop bucking and neighing lol. Thanks for all your comments.
