My horse is lame

Got down to the yard at 7.30a, this morning to check on them - and one of my horses was walking towards me not lame as in hopping but head nodding when approached no not on 3 legs checked all legs no heat until i get down to the hoof and there is alot of heat in the foot check hoof nothing in it ? any ideas what it could be ?

Abscess.
Get your farrier out to check it out.

The dry ground can easily cause it, but you should get it looked at.

almost certainly an abscess. My horse displayed the same symptoms and I checked the hoof and could find nothing even by tapping the bottom of his foot. A farrier checked him over and ruled it out,but didn't remove the shoe so my vet came out and suspected possible extensor tendon injury.He was given bute and came sound a week later. My own farrier came out to reshoe him and discovered he had an abscess at the toe under his shoe which had already burst.
