My horse is moulting!

Is anyone else's horse moulting yet? My girl is a Sec Dx, living out unclipped and unrugged.

I have to say that she has moulted in February before, but not when it's been this cold for so long.

Quite surprised, as she definitely wasn't moulting at 5 o'clock last night......

Yeah our unclipped g gees are moulting, the mare who is moulting the most out of all of them is unrugged but stabled most of the time (has foal at foot and fields are way too muddy and boggy)

frank the welshie will hold on to his until oooh at least may hence the clippers will be coming out!
 
My old mare's coat is coming out by the handful, she's been losing it for a while now. My little gelding is letting go of some of his now too, and my other 2 mares are just starting a little bit. Little shettie however, she is hanging on to her winter coat for all she is worth

Mine too ... and I was starting to think something was wrong with her, so thank you for this post. Annoyingly, she is piebald and judging from the state of my fleece its only the white bits that are going!
 
Horses start to moult when the evenings start getting lighter. Mine have been moulting slowly since before Christmas and most of them live out unrugged. Its not a temperature thing but a daylight thing

Mine are moulting too, as our temperatures average around -10C during the day I think they are quite mad especially as they all live out, and most are unrugged. As HP says the daylight hours are getting longer, it isn't dark here until 6pm now.
 
Yep, my Dx is just starting. Oh God, hair will be everwhere in a few weeks!

What really gets my goat though is that as soon as we get past the longest day, she starts growing her winter woolies again - in July for heavens sake. I give up!
