he is so full of himself at the mo, he bounces his way round the ride, twisting, backing up and spinning if he wants to go go go. spooking at things he usually wouldn't notice. he tries it on at every opportunity and generally takes the p*ss. he's not usually like this, but i remember he did exactly the same last yr at this time. i'd only had him a few months then and wasnt hugely confident and he got away with it then, bolted a couple of times. now i hve the measure of him and the confidence to deal with him, he doesn't get away with anything, but he still tries it on. its more annoying than anything, as he's darned hard work! altho i am thankful he's still listening to me when he decides he wants to go go go. its a few moments of argument then i win and its head shake and bounce along defeated!

he'd has a week off, which i thought was why he was extra silly, but he's had time off before and been fine after. i took him out and made him work really hard today to burn some energy, he came home soaked, but full of himself and could've kept going some more!

could it be the autumn grass fizzing him up? he doesnt go like it during spring, he's an angel, altho a very keen one, most the year round. he gets a small amount of Hi-Fi and that's it.

My boy is exactly the same at the moment! He's spooking at nothing, trying to run off with me and generally being a tool!:D I want my bomb proof pony back!:)

Yup! My little bvgg@r is tooned to the moon at the mo too!!! Normally he's so steady, bombproof in fact, but today when I took him out he tried to buck (maybe a bit cold backed tho' - being generous to him); then started doing some wonderful Piaffe movements (where the hell are the dressage judges when you need 'em???); then after trotting for a mile solid up hill, eventually settled a bit, only to fizz up again when we had to come home via the pigs!! (aaarrgh). So a lively ride. Then nearly home and he took exception to this guy raking up leaves with a long-handled rake - he isn't good with people with anything resembling a stick though, poor lad.

I've changed his food back to what he was having in the summer in the hope that would sort it. Nope! He's having a wee bit of haylage but not a lot, mixed in with other hay. Also he's quite restricted for grass so that can't be it. Admittedly I've not ridden him as much as I would normally (try to get out for at least a twenty minute trot/hack every day if possible, longer hack of about an hour at least twice a week includes a canter), as have had the dreaded "bug" and I reckon the crafty little toad knows I'm not feeling 100%.

The only thing that's changed is his field companion; we've got a new livery here and they've started the dreaded pair-bonding, but this looney behaviour started before the pony arrived, about three'ish weeks ago I think.

Blimmin horses. I've threatened him with working livery to sort him out!!! Let him earn his keep heh.

Yeah - the last couple of days my gelding has been realllllllly silly. This afternoon, riding up a hill that he has walked up I don't know how many times, a car drove along the top road and he practically tried to crawl over the fence into a nearby field. AND he's recovering from a thoroughpin - NOT ideal!

My horse hasn't gone nuts but he has ballooned in weight, I think there must have been a last flourish in the quality of the grass as there's hardly any grazing there for him to gain weight from!! So that would tally with those who are sensitive to rich grass!!

yep! my usual plod of a horse who doesn't look at anything was rearing, jogging and spooking at every single thing yesterday!

Mine took off on a hack yesterday after being as good as gold in the morning. Went for a hack and ended up doing a 20 minute hack in 10 minutes! Not the leisurely, slow hack I anticipated.

You dont know how pleased I am to see this post. My normally very well behaved TB has changed beyond all recognition in the last 3 weeks, completely lost the plot tonight whilst I was lunging him, broke the lunge line and ran loose, 10 mins later was a dripping wreck. i was wondering about the grass, he is not eating his hard feed up so is probably not getting his mag supplement in the right quantity either. Roll on some frost to kill it off, Im too old to be dealing with an idiot TB on a regular basis!!

My boy is super fit at the moment and is feeling very well! He bucked me off today when we had a canter out hacking as he is thought it was far too exciting! :p

Yep, I wondered what was making my 20 year old TB act like a 4 year old. It doesn't help that I'm trying to lead my other ex-racer at the moment while I ride the 20 year old. I am going to have arms like an orangutan soon - he's walking at breakneck speed while she's lagging behind!

I understand that it the grass is not helping, mine are still in muzzles! but was wondering whether it had something to do with fireworks and left them all a bit spooky...just a thought

Mmmm, fireworks MIGHT explain it, but mine used to be at livery near where the military trained and were firing mega big guns about a mile away!!! And he was fine with it, so as far as my reptile is concerned that's not it. Little toad; this evening he didn't want his feet titivated so started prancing around with me on end of hoofpick cussing and swearing - he got my elbow in his ribs tho' pretty damn quick so that sorted that bit of temperament. Think he's just trying it on to see what he can get away with. Its a cob thing.

My sausage was a sod to load yesterday, he got away twice from me and bombed off tail and head in the air to his field and cantered round his field full of himself, he didn't load too easy to come home either :D

I too am so relieved that its not just mine that has lost the plot !
The YO turns my mare out. He can barely get the head collar off before she spins round and hoons off at a flat out gallop.
Apparently he would like to have a word with me about it !
