Doing my usual hoofcare routine today (cleaning, disinfecting etc) and stupidly leaned across to to his nearside front from the offside. He then decided to take a step forward with his offside front. In doing so, his knee went into the side of my head. My god, I was seeing stars - didn't knock me unconscious, but did it hurt! Now have a huge lump on the side of head. It always seems to be the stupid things like this when I get injured. Think I'll wear my hat to do it in future! Hoping I wake up in the morning . Fortunately Mum is a nurse & has been monitoring for any dodgy symptoms post injury. Horses eh?! :o

That's good to know that I'm not the only one Binky! So painful. Had a lesson afterwards. Put my hat on immediately after it happened as I was concerned it wouldn't fit once the swelling developed! :D

Ouch! Hope you get better soon!
The first day I had my new horse, I bent down to scratch some mud off his leg with my fingers, he thought I was asking him to pick up his foot bless him, and I also got kneed in the head :o

Ooh i feel your pain! It happened to me about 3 weeks ago, in almost exactly the same way as you except i was trimming the hair around my horses coronet band :( Had a bruise for a good week or so.

Ah, I dropped the stud...reached across to pick it up and 'Dooof', next thing was seeing stars!

I reckon it was a set up. lol.

Feeling better already guys! That's what's so great about this forum - you always hope that when you post others will have had a similar experience! Easily done then is the general consensus! Thanks for the good wishes :D

Lol! Happens so quickly doesn't it. Love the "Dooof". That's exactly what it was like. What kills me is that I'm rolling round on the floor holding my head in agony & he is continuing to munch hay as if nothing has happened. I think it was a set up. He knew he was having a lesson because his field mate was having his at the time. He deliberately made it look like an accident! :)

The amount of times I have done this is ridiculous! I will be putting hoof ointment or brushig mud off his hooves or something and I will just get kneed in the face...always off him trying to kick the flies away from around his legs, I should know better really :p

Yes - I've had near misses before too. It was inevitable from the law of averages that a hoof or leg was going to strike me one day. The hind leg kicking the belly due to flies is the classic. I've lost count of the number of times that a hoof has come whizzing past my head. I really should know better! :o

I've done it too..and not only that, but whilst taking off horse's back boots he kicked at a fly on his stomach..straight into my head. Not fun :P Think all of us have gone there. Thankfully it wasn't a real kick :) Hope the bruise goes soon!

Thanks guys! It's still sore when I touch it, but definitely better today. Feel much better hearing all your stories of being kneed in the jaw / face / head & knowing I am not the only one! :)
