as for the rugging debate, thought id show you my horse (any excuse lol). The heaviest rug he wore this winter was a HW turnout, and in exceptionally cold weather he wore a cooler underneath for the layering effect (stables/yard on top of hill). He was out completely naked till december, where he was then brought into work and clipped - his only clip all winter.

He has nearly all of his summer coat through - wee bit of winter coat still lingering on his legs.
At the moment he has a very LW rug at night, naked or with a waterproof sheet to keep wind off back when he goes out. He is naked in the yard during the day unless very windy, where he wears a cooler.

He is 3/4 tb.
It shows you that you dont have to over rug to keep condition, but more to rug correctly :)

Oh, and please comment on condition etc. :)

Lovely looking horse! Great condition and I am a bit jealous as my girl is still a bit fluffy, and the ponies are hairy yaks - well kinda, I end up being a hairy yak!!

He is stunning...I'm very jealous! My hairy cob has been out naked all winter and had the thickest coat. It is coming out in handfuls now and I am finding hair everywhere!

Wonderful condition! I gave my mare her last blanket clip just after xmas and now she is shedding hair so much. I really cant decide whether to get the clippers out or just leave her.

thanks all :) lol

Its mainly to highlight that you don't need tons of rugs to get a good summer coat; ok, he may not get as thick a coat as a cob but he is still 1/4 irish so gets a decent enough one - and I dont groom him that much only really before and after I ride!

I get that every horse is different, but those people that have more than 3 rugs on a horse sounds a bit excessive, why not just get one rug at a very HW weight?

Oh, and he also will wear a fly sheet during the summer - because otherwise he goes burnt orange which soo isnt a good look :p

no probs :)

Scoop of bluegrass cool mix
1/3 scoop of bluegrass cool N condition
1/2 scoop chaff

and supplement wise he gets
Liquiflex from Copa Ireland (amazing stuff!)
Performance plus from Copa ireland
Cooking oil from tescos :p

:) He only gets the supplements in his night feed :)
