She's a wierdo i'm sure, ok so her field isn't exactly knee deep but there is grass in there, short as it may be it is definitely grass, my other filly rummages about and munches on what she finds, but my older mare never grazes, she stands at the hay until thats all gone, then goes to the end of the field parks herself in the corner for a few hours just standing with back leg resting, then about 4 o'clock comes towards the gate and stands there waiting to come in, is there something wrong with her ??? btw she's a fat hippo so definitely not starving i'm not concerned about her weight but just why she doesn't graze.

Maybe her teeth can't cope with the short grass, you said she is old.
More likely, as a fatty, she just stuffs herself on the easy stuff and can't be bothered to forage.

Laziness I reckon. I had a horse like yours. The ponies were head down eating whatever they could find. The horse ate the stuff that was in easy reach, like the hay, but couldn't be bothered with the grazing!

Perhaps she cant be bothered finding the blades to munch on...but if your horse needs to loose weight it is no bad thing. Maybe the grass is not through sufficiently yet.
