A few of you may know my horse went down with Laminitis a few months ago. I was very concerned and was thinking the worst. Well fast-forward to now and he is doing grand. I am so pleased with his progress as is my vet and farrier that have never seen such a quick turn around in a horse. We also think we have found the caused of the attacks. He is now sound and full of beans! He gets 2 hour’s turnout a day in the school with company to let of steam 1 hour in morning and 1 hour at night.
He has always been a laid back no problem horse, in fact you could do anything with him and not worry about him kicking ect…..well that’s what I thought until last night. I did the normal and went into his stable to put his headcollar on and the little git, reared up, spun and tried to double barrel me!! Lucky I didn’t lock the door behind me and had an exit! Note to one self never take horses for granted as they are so unpredictable! He is obviously feeling much better, no excuse for his out of order behavior tho!
Has anyone’s gentle, loving horse done anything like this before and turned into the devil!

My horse rears and bucks in the stable if she has been left in for long periods like box rest etc. She never does it at me and its never nasty, just a sign of frustration.

Sounds the same for your boy, especially if he has previously been used to going out for long periods.

There must be something in the air. My boy has been getting more and more frisky to turn out. He is a lamb to go in with or lead out to tie up for any other reason, but when he knows it's his turnout time he gets really excited. Due to the weather, they are all getting just 3 hours turn out with forage and company in the sand at the mo. Yesterday I went in his stable and he tried to barge past me. When I sent him back he started leaping around and bucking and snapping (playfully) with his teeth. I decided to put his rope halter on rather than the head collar and actually ended up having to back him most of the way as he bounced around. I know he is just really pleased and excited to be going out. Roll on Spring!

A few years ago, around this time of year, I went to check on my mare at the time who lived out. They had already been hayed so I did my other checks then went to see my mare. Gave her a pat goodbye and walked off towards the gate. For no apparent reason whatsoever she then trotted past me, stopped and very purposefully double-barrelled me. I went flying and was lucky nothing was broken. I never did work out why she did it - they'd all been fed, I was doing nothing threatening. Total mystery. But she never ever came close to doing anything like that again!

glad yours has fully recovered from lami

being mine has been is so many months also laminitis
I cant believe her temperament .:D

she is sweet calm doesn't barge bite kick nothing you would think she has only been in one day . I must be blessed with a 100% sweet natured mare .

who knows she is in for a reason .

roll on the spring

Ha definitely something in the air! I have had just had a txt of someone this morning 4 people have falling off today all separate occasions. Riding 3 horses tonight…… hmmm I think not, they can all have a day off!
Thank you Leviathan, fingers crossed your horse recovers soon. I feel for any horse and owner that goes through the pain of lami. I have been feeding a product by Ron Fields. When I spoke to him, he said I would see a difference in 3-4 days and bless him sent me a free sample. Within 2 days I saw a huge improvement and he is getting better each day. If fact I haven’t seen my horse move the way he is at the moment for a lot of years. Very pleased!

Could be the reduced turnout? My boy is on a restricted grazing regime for laminitis. I've now got a sand pen for him to go for a few hours a day, but in the days before he had access to that he could get quite pizzed off if he couldn't go out. He proper launched me through the air one day, which made us rethink his whole regime and into the pen he went. He's been fine with that, touch wood. It is a small area, but I've seen him throw some pretty gravity-defying shapes in there!
Do you think your lad could get access to something similar?
