I took my 6 year old out for his second meet last week. He was very well behaved BUT he wanted to be right at the front, i mean ahead of the field at the front. Much to my horror we went in front of the master at one point as he didnt want to stop. Any tips on now to make him feel happy further towards the back?

Stronger bit.
A steady nanny horse.
Quit for this season and condition him to it properly next season, boring him to death on endless hound exercise before opening meet.

I'd go for option 3 but appreciate it is 'boring'
It is slow work to make a good hunter though!

yes we are going to try a stronger bit as he was only in his snaffle. Going to try a few quieter Tuesdays as often at the mo with out hunt its only 4-5 horses and see how he gets on with that. If not then yes maybe leave until next season.

Two opfions here. Either stop now for the rest of the season. Then restart at the beginning of the next season and take him ot relugiiosly every trail meeting in the Autumn. 3 or 4 days a week if you can. Just bore him into it. Or send him to someone who hunts alot and let them settle him. It's quite a skill involved into producing a well mannered hunter which is why a good mannerly hunter will achieve a very good price.

Circle ? Run up the arse of a friendly horse ? (Mine will let anyone literally bump into his arse) ...had 1 the same, don't ever show him a gap either!! Keep in the field, be strategic !!

Never never never crash into another horse! Think of the risk of standing on its legs… scary thought. My horse never kicked but I’d have annihilated anyone that used her as brakes. Circles are ok if you aren’t on arable or new ley.

I'm not saying physically make contact but if you know the horse and know it absolutely won't kick you can tuck behind ...
