Should I worry about this. He is a cob. out in the day, in at night with hay. No bucket feed given but he has equibites.Have also tried loose salt in a bucket and that too was ignored.

He'll probably use it if he wants it. My mare has a salt lick and it's partially used, but she doesn't use it everyday.

My mare won't touch them either - I figure she knows she doesn't need extra salt. I did have one that wolfed down a whole one overnight - that really did make me panic, I thought he would get some sort of overdose salt poisoning, thankfully he was fine but didn't get another one.

My boy loved his himalayan one, not to lick but to rub his tail on, yes he was a strange one. Even if I put two teaspoons of salt in his feed he was none too pleased, but I did make him eat up if he had been sweating, and it was summer.

I find they also like the pink Himalayan rock salt one best but one of my horses likes to lick it every day and the other just occasionally.

Which one is it? Mine won't use anything but the pink Himalayan rock salt one. I tried him with the white Rockies one but he won't touch it. He loves the pink one though.

Same. I even tried fancy flavoured ones and they just gathered dust. Once the pink himalayan salt one was installed she was over the moon. I found it in block form so with the help of a dremel I shaped it and fit it in her salt holder. She was very annoyed with hanging ones.

Echoing above, IME if they don't use it, they don't need it.

Have quite often given one to a horse for the first time and they've gone nuts over it, then a couple of days later they chill out and don't use it as much. I always take this to mean they probably did need the salt in their diet but it has balanced out. I always like to have one in a stable so I know they can take what they need.

Ditto Himalayan rock salt - seems to be the favourite with our lot.

In my stable is a small Himalayan one on a string . a palin white block and aa green block. None touched. Even loose salt not eaten. Tried to put salt in the feed he does not usually get and it was declined.

My boy likes his pink himalayan rock salt. He didn't touch it over the winter though (well, maybe the odd lick) now he is getting less "feed" (on grass) he is more interested in it, but still doesn't go mad :-)

I was going to say exactly the same thing - beast loves his Himalayan rock salt licks, I have know many horses that flatly ignore any other salt lick.
