i am beginning to teach my young horse to lunge, so far we have perfected walk on the lung but he wont go any faster. i have tried using a lunge whip but he is a bit curious of it and wont let it out of his sight when im holding it to lunge him so he turns in towards it. i have also used a small whip but as soon as i make a noise with either whip or try and encourage him to go forward he gets annoyed and frustrated and turns in towards me and if i try to chase him out he will rear up at me. any advice is appreciated thanks :)

The way to longeing is to remain marginally behind the pony's hip. On the off chance that you permit the pony to work corresponding to you or get before him even marginally, he'll accept that as a log jam or hold up sign. So remain inverse his hip, looking toward his rump, not toward his head, and with the longe whip (or the stopping point—I like to swing the last foot or so of line with the elastic catch around to sign quicker development as opposed to utilizing the whip). Step toward his rump, which he'll see as a pursuing movement, and he should accelerate. On the off chance that he makes even a couple of faster strides, acclaim him and keep on venturing up the development. Inevitably he'll begin speeding up when he sees you step into his hip.

It's difficult for a pony to comprehend from the outset, that you need it to accelerate while leveled out. Longeing is another peculiar thing for them to see, so assembling 2 unusual things can be extra bizarre to grasp.

Will he trot up in hand, off your voice? I think that would be a good starting point, then you can graduate to a helper to lead from his outside whilst you lunge until he gets the idea, then drop the helper entirely.

Shall we mix our horses together? Mine will walk once or twice initially but after he’s done a couple of trots he doesn’t want to walk anymore ? I can get him to walk but he’ll just pick up again half a circle later!
