I could bear it no longer! Something had to be done about Gray's tail! It hasn't been washed since last summer at some point and it was almost black!

This is what we started off with!

I chopped 4in off before we started and this is the comparison to when I had finished washing ...

Almost dry! It is still damp at the bottom hence the yellow tinge but that wont be there when it's completely dry!

Not bad for some fairy liquid, blue shampoo (don't ask me which one ... it's that old the label has long since come off!) And some Alberto Balsam Sun Kissed Raspberry Conditioner 😂😂😂

Plus you also have to love that GrayMo is 16yo and still has silver bits on him!

Looks great! Can I send you my grey for a scrub? (that dark blob behind his hocks is his tail...) And he was out SJ 3 weeks ago so was white for that (photo is a week old, so 2 weeks before it was taken).

Ah I did my greys tail today too! It was the same colour as yours was but he's m&m so can't chop any off....It's looking slightly cleaner but could do with another wash through!

I did my grey completely today. She has been having a great brush every day, but was greasy. When I groomed with a massage brush to loosen the gunk she was then rolling in the stable and a bit back got cast.

This morning I scrubbed her all clean. Buckets of shampoo.

It was not so cold, we had hot water, heat lamps and a wicking rug.

She survived, and apart from a mane that seems to have gone 'poof' she looks very smart.

Very nice and shiny. It's just reminded me how bad my grey's tail is
He's dodged a bath all winter but, when it gets warmer he's for it!

Tails, next on my list. Were all supposed to be done yesterday but I’ve been ill (I’m NEVER ill so I’ve felt quite sorry for myself 😂)
Next week, the first tail wash of the year is a real spring turning point for me! The grey Shetland bath means summer is really on its way ;)

Apologies for the poor photos.
This was my horse when she arrived. Not a grey but it was the worst tail I ever had to clean. The lower half of the tail was so caked with muck that it was rigid. When I washed it most of it broke off. The second photo was taken 8 months later.
I am very glad I do not have a white tail to clean.F646EAD2-7491-4571-AB3E-52FAAB86E751.jpegB8A708B9-2666-4924-90A0-2027A704043E.jpeg

White hairs attract mud. Glad I don't have one. I only have two socks to do.
It's meant to be 16 degrees out there so will enjoy the before and after photos.
