Basically, I have decided not to jump Ellie at Cricklade Show (Bank Holiday Monday), for several reasons. The ground is never good, there will be faaaaar too many people there I know who I really dont want to witness me making an eejit of myself, and there arent really any classes that would suit us at this point. Instead, we're going to head to West Wilts for our first time out - it was always a favourite of both of us in the past, and I know the courses are always well built and fair. Next Tuesday, they have a Clear Round session (with a buy two rounds, get one free offer.) The next day, however, they are running some unaffiliated jumping, with an hour's clear round session to begin with, followed by 75cm, 85cm and 95cm Trailblazers. I am undecided which day to take Ellie! Do we go for the Clear Round, or do we go on the Wednesday, with a view to going in the CR and then taking her in the 75cm if all goes well? My gut instinct says it would be fun to have the chance to compete if we feel up to it, whereas if we went just for clear round, the whole thing is far more laid back. But I am also conscious of running before I can walk, so to speak!

Any opinions?

I'd go on the Wednesday with the intention of doing the Clear Round, then depending how you are both feeling maybe enter a class... if not not worries at least you did the clear round and had a good day out.

Stop worrying regardless.. remember your going out to have fun, not to prove anything to anyone, just to have fun.. so go enjoy yourself..

my vote is for second day as long as you are sure u will get chance to do clear round in that hour?

In the 1st one i take it the CR are all the same? if you did threei think it would be a bit boring by the end, and the horse might get a bit funny jumping same course 3 times?

Go and do CR and if it goes well then be brave an do a small jumping class, imagine how proud you will be when you've done it!

I'm with the others - go on the 2nd day, do the CR see how you feel and then you have the option to do a class which will get you back into the swing of things nice and gently. The fact you are doing an actual class will make you feel fantastic about yours and Ellies achievement x

Thank you both - that is exactly what I was leaning towards!

somethingorother - I think you're right about the fact that it may get a bit repetitive going over the same course three times - I think they change the height every hour or so, but even so, knowing Ellie as I do, I think she'd get to the third round and think, hey, I've done this already, why should I go round and do it all again!?

I think Wednesday might be a date......got butterflies already....argh! Better get my jumping gear back out - stitch the buttons back on my green jacket!
