Interior shots of sleeping spaniels are also easy to take. Exterior ones of spaniels are harder!

Beautiful photos of your gorgeous gang!

I am always trying to champion the virtues of ex racing greyhounds to people who are looking for a more laid back pet and it still astonishes me that it isn't yet common knowledge that they make excellent pets. People still seem to have this vision of them being manic running dogs that never stop. Obviously a word of caution about small furries needs to be given with some but, other than that, all the ex racers I know in pet homes are the ideal dog for the less active family. Dogs will snooze on the sofa all day and then be up for a romp in the countryside or at the park in the evening and at weekends.

And then you get intense dogs like this one - that I just know would be a manic lunatic in an average, urban pet home!

I've got to agree that sighthounds are often under-appreciated as pet dogs. People tend to think they want cute, bouncy, fluffy, active dogs and then find they haven't got the time to give them the exercise and mental stimulation they need. They also soon realise that fluff often soaks up wet and mud and God knows what else resulting in smelly animals in their lovely homes, plus tumbleweeds of dog hair appearing in every corner.

A lovely whippet or greyhound will be keen to go out on walks with you, yet snooze the rest of the day and don't tend to bring the rest of the countryside in with them. My 20mo old whippet has just been out for a short walk round the block this morning as it is raining and now is happily snoozing on the sofa. I think for a lot of average pet homes they are the ideal dog, but they don't fit the cute and fluffy image people generally want.

Obviously I am completely biased but I would agree - greyhounds are restful, lazy and so easy to have around, they make fabulous pets :)

I sometimes wonder whether I have grown like my dogs, or they are like me, but we suit each other perfectly - bursts of energy and activity combined with periods of down time and laziness :D

Technically mine are working dogs (springers) but they've both been fast asleep since we got back from our walk this morning. Not strictly true; they went out for a wee at 1.00 pm ish and then had a tangly twist (much excitement around that). That then exhausted them and they promptly nodded off again. I've just switch my music off, to take a phone call and all I can hear is the Rufus snoring!! Button is a lady and breathes very quietly, although I keep hearing her feet scuffling the lino as she's dreaming.

We will have another 60 minute walk at teatime, they will have tea and will then sleep the night away. It's a dogs life :)
