Hi

Thought I would share these few pics taken over the weekend. Isla is 21 months old & we've had her pony Strawberry for approx 3 weeks (9hh full shetland mare). What a fab little mare! Isla loves her & whilst I thought she might not want to ride just yet & would probably just like to potter round her on the yard on Saturday she decided she'd like a little walk on her! So cute!
I'm not sure that I have ever been more proud...!
Leading her onto the yard (on her own, would not let me help!)

And riding, she was so funny, kept letting her head go all wobbly and going 'whoa whoa'! So we'd stop to see if she was happy enough and she'd give Strawbs a little nudge and tell her to get on!

:)

Archiepoo - don't worry, I have 1 on order! I honestly didn't expect her to want to ride yet - someone had a very firm hold of her at all times while she was on board :)
Stencilface - My hubby can see that too apparently...! ;)
Broke_but_happy - Strawberry has been 100% spot on so far, Isla paints her hooves & helps to pick them out & brushes her etc and the pony puts up with it all! My only criticism of the little mare would be that she gets a bit strong to lead when she knows you're heading for home but turning a few circles usually slows her down - she learns fast!
Suelin - thanks :)

So sweet :D they already look like best friends :)

:D:D:D

Isla wanted me to send Strawberry back not so long ago (we have a little old Shetland and Isla is very attached to her though she's too old to be ridden) but now she's really starting to take to her & knows that Strawberry is her pony :D

ARG I want a Strawberry! Too cute :D Your daughter and her look perfect together. Very expensive childhood looming for you though :D

Too cute!

I've just got a minature shetland so my little nephew can get used to being around horses, leading them etc. So yeah 90% for my nephew 10 % for me.
And if you believe that you believe anything ;)

Everyone should have a Strawberry...! ;):D

I'd originally looked for a section A for Isla but she's only dinky and I think anything bigger than Strawberry woud have been too big & she'd have been a bit more wary around it...

It was always odds on that we'd more than likely have ponies as soon as I found out I was pregnant and when we found out we were having a little girl my hubby just resigned himself to that fact - he's even spoken about transport for her for when she wants to start doing local shows...

I think it's a wonderful idea getting a littley for kids to potter round - I wouldn't have cared if Isla hadn't wanted to ride for a year or so yet but I wanted something that she could get her confidence with so that when she wanted to ride she'd already trust the pony...:)

Yay for your oh - very accepting :D I've always joked that while others would be shopping for baby gear, prams etc, I would be shetland shopping... Not that the having children thing is remotely on the cards for me :p :D

ahh bless!!! It must have been a good mummy feeling:D

I have a strawberry - except my version is Lollipop:D she is a mini though and only 32 inches. My son is only 12 weeks so a bit wee yet lol. She is worth her weight in solid gold though, her temperament is outstanding and she is only 4. I agree about sec A's. Confidence building round a littlely is invaluable.

i bought her when i was 6 months pregnant lol ;)

He's amazing TBH :D

He actually bought my horse for me a few years ago and then worked lots of overtime (twice) to buy me 2 new saddles :o:)

He's as soft as a brush - Strawberry is wary of unfamiliar adults (though is drawn to kids ;)) and he went into the little orchard to catch her over the weekend and though she came to him she was very nervous - he was gutted! He's vowed to do more with her as he wants his little girls pony to trust him...:)

where did you find him  he sounds lovely!

I love these shetland names! My girls ride one called rusty but they can't lead him as he's strong as an ox and thinks he's being starved so buggers off first chance he gets :-)

Where can I order my self one?!

I'm loving all these tiny ponies :D If I ever find my self with a little one on the way the first thing on the shopping list will be a tiny pony :D Forget the pram and clothes and stuff a small fluffy pony will be finding its self a new home .

Your daughter is very cute please keep us up dated on the adventures of the small ones.

Dafthoss - They broke the mould when they made him unfortunately :(;)

My own horse is a strapping 16.3/17hh gent and although we have a little oldy (just slightly bigger than Strawbs) there's no tacking up etc as she's no longer ridden so she gets a brush & a feed & thats about it so getting used to our little Strawberry pudding has been strange! She's also a lot brighter than any of the boys...I don't know if that's a mare thing or a pony thing...?! :D

I dare say Strawberry could be like this if we're not very careful with her - she's a greedy little thing and walking her through the water schooling course at the weekend was like heaven & hell for her - all that grass & not a blade to eat! ;):)

So lovely to see!

I get just as much joy out of my girls riding as I do myself - maybe a bit more:o

More pictures soon please

Thanks :)

I felt like death warmed up yesterday - so bad that I didn't ride - but Isla wanted to ride Strawberry again and I managed to find the energy to walk her out from somewhere so I think you're right about possibly getting even more enjoyment from it! ;):)

I'll try to keep you all up to date with her progress...:D

I love her. These pictures are so cute I could actually cry.
Is it possible to feel small pony broodiness?x

must be possible because these pics have done it for me too!!
Strawberry (love the name) looks and sounds like a little angel, you will definitely have to keep us updated on the adventures of Strawberry and Isla:D

So cute!

I've been thinking of getting my kiddies a pony but my husband thought they might be too young...my eldest is 3. I'll be showing him this post later ;) x

When I was in my teens, long before I wanted a baby, I always said I wanted kids purely to have little ponies. Tiny toddler size jods & boots are so cute too.
